you should have stopped at 7 posts because this one, #8, is one of the most ******ed things ever posted on NSB, which is impressive because the list of ******ed NSB posts is like the ATG list of boxers, is virtually impossible to crack the top 5.
You managed to do the impossible. Kudos.Comment

Bunch of morons who think sports athletes don't get better with time. You can't compare 50's boxing to today, today is much more superior. They punched meat then they just walked into the ring and started bleeding, then they left and did it again 3 weeks later. Dudes today have strength and conditioning coaches, protein shakes, improved calisthenics, better technique. That era formed the basis for the future of boxing and should be respected, but to imply its fighters are better is ******ed. That's like saying sprinter Jesse Owens was better than Usain Bolt... fohComment

For instance, several of Floyd's opponents were magically ranked right before they landed a Floyd shot. Guerrero comes to mind...and speaking of worthlessness of ranking altogether, A guy like Broner was magically ranked in the ring p4p list prior to his Maidana doomsday... back when they were touting Broner as being the next Floyd.
Rankings are, in all intents and purposes, just another tool of promoters in this day and age, and virtually useless in comparing eras that are so damn far apart. Same as all the alphabet titles of today's era. Tools to be used towards an end.
I always chuckle to myself a bit when some statistics warrior uses Ring rankings as a way to legitimize someone. The owners of Ring can, and have, put anyone in the rankings they want to that matches their particular financial interest.Comment

Floyd's is better because over half that 49 came at the championship level. , Marciano only did I'd it for the last 7 fights, and then retired at age 31!
The bigger record here is 19 professional years in combat without a loss. That's INSANE. I can't think of any body who had that kind of a run .
Marcianos entire career was only 8 years to give perspective.Comment

I don't see how this comparison could even be faithfully made. Different era. Different sanctioning body politics. I don't even pretend to know about the politics in Marciano's time, but I do know a fair bit about today's.
