Prime Toney? As in we take a prime, top version of a 160 Toney against GGG?

Much too beastly for GGG. Too quick, too skilled, GGG wouldn't be able to stop, drop or even hurt him really so his main game plan is gone and it becomes a game of whether he can outfight and outpoint him. Not gonna happen.

GGG might get some rounds in if Toney stops to rest, but it would end up as either an easy UD or a refs stoppage on accumulation. Not sure how GGG would respond to a situation like that because he's never had to fight anyone good, so we have no idea what would happen to him. But, when guys like Rosado, Geale, Murray etc are able to catch you on the counter easily, Toney would be his worst nightmare, because unlike those bums, he was good. No, great.

I agree but Toney could minimize missing shots and also had a very good chin.

GGG missed shots from Ouma and Stevens, I think Toney would not have problems with landing his punches.

To be fair, GGG hasn't shown what one might consider excellent counter punching skills so far. Considering the guys he's been fighting, he's had a chance to really showcase some amazing counter punching skills as all of his opponent were ripe for the picking if he was a good counter puncher.

I think maybe what you're looking for is more along the lines of; GGG sometimes counters guys, but mostly leads his own offense. Also, it sometimes looks like he might be countering, but it's more that he often punches at the same time as the other guy.

Anyway, one of GGG's biggest flaws is that he stops after combos to see what effect he has had. Against a guy like Toney, that is tantamount to punching yourself in the face. He also doesn't transition particularly between offense and defense, but rather does one then the other. This often means that when he's punching he's actually very open for counters, but when he's not punching, he has clean, textbook defense.

        It's a very good style matchup...for Toney.

GGG is tailor made for Toney

only thing that ever troubled a prime Toney was speed(Jones), movement(Nunn) and elusiveness(McCallum)

GGG gets stopped in the mid to late rounds

Ridiculous logic, no problem with anyone saying Toney wins but your reasoning doesn't make any sense imo.

At the time of Toney-Jirov fight those who were ringside were not sure who is winning until the last round. The line of thought that it was a clear win for Toney became possible because of the general shift in judging philosophy that favored defensive counter-punching type of boxing. The eagerness to press forward and make the fight is underrated in today boxing paradigm.

Can't believe anyone could pick Golovkin by stoppage

Toney ate his way up to being an artificial HW and those guys couldn't stop him ffs.

Toney would counter GGG to a wide UD. Too skilled, too fast, too talented.

Toney, easy work. There is precident here, watch the Nunn fight. Toney works very well against aggressive boxer punchers, and he has the chin so if he does catch a shot he can deal with it.

Toney faltered against jones because jones is a rule breaker; meaning that all the rules of boxing technique don't apply to Jones, a guy who is so fast, that he cannot really be countered, a guy that can hit you easily while you are setting a trap...a guy that can make you look foolish when you come foward. Toney is not a reactive adaptive fighter and even if he was...Jones had such magnificant physical skills it was impossible to beat him as a boxer puncher who sets and uses counter punching. So naturally Toney faltered.

But Toney is on the short list in his era of boxer punchers and GGG would be facing a guy who has virtually every advantage.

... Toney KOs GGG with the first punch.

An overwhelming first few rounds here for Toney, easily outboxing GGG.GGG has no answer to the counter punching god James Toney.

Too flat footed,James would give GGG it anyway GGG wanted it.Toney wouldn't box him on the outside.

To every GGG fan in the house.Think of this.

Your boi hasn't fought anyone of Toney's inside fighting ability.Your boi has not got the head movement to avoid Tony's punches.

                      GGG's head after 7 rounds.
