IMO, Trinidad, Gomez, Benitez were all better and more accomplished than Cotto.

Where we differ is on the resume itself.
Go back through Cotto's early fights.
If you know the names, you'll see Cotto very early on, took on some difficult names early in his career.

180-degree difference from someone like Canelo, who gets hyped for his record.
Now THERE'S a soft resume with holes all over it.

You dismiss Judah and Mosley. I don't.
I already posted how they went on to significant victories after losing to Cotto.
    I know who cotto fought.

Don't mistake me for some guy who thinks he has a bad resume because I don't know the guys names.

I know most of the known guys he fought. He has a solid resume. Nothing great.

Winning a fight or two after means little. If they went on a run and was top caliber still then that would show they were still good.

That's a pretty damning criteria. But let's use it on everybody, shall we?
      How 'bout ODLH?

Who did HE beat who went on a run and was top caliber?
      Rafael Ruelas?
      Miguel A. Gonzalez?
Pretty much crashed and burned after losses to Oscar.

The rest were either over-the-hill dudes, or Trinidad-ruined leftovers.

As you can see... if we try hard enough, we can shoot holes in just about any resume.

        • Cotto was below average at 140 , above average at 147 and everything above welterweight is average I mean he beat a crippled foreman for that bogus title and followed that up with Margrito and Mayorga before losing to Mayweather and trout

He has been on a nice little 3 fight streak which he won by stoppage so that's clouding people judgment, he will lose to Canelo and people will call for him to retire again

                • i respected cotto despite all the pink in his wardrobe.....

i respected cotto despite his strong ****sexual essence and rock of love for brian perez.....

i respected cotto despite his cropped eye brows.....

but holding the lineal middle weight crown while refusing to let your opponents fight at full 160lbs and using the fact that he's the a side cash cow was the last straw.

even pacquiao fought guys at 147lbs.

i have to draw the line somewhere.

You make some very good points. I thought Cotto when he was younger was a smart and entertaining fighter with some good skills, but I must admit, that I never thought he was getting to a "great" status. He never had the wins that Tito had who took down a 23-year-old Yori Boy Campas who was 56-0(50) and who no one wanted to fight, an undefeated, young Oba Carr, a young, undefeated De La Hoya, a young undefeated Vargas, an undefeated David Reid and flattened once-beaten Joppy. You just knew when Tito got in there, it was on and he did not mind fighting anybody. He also never won a "vacant" title.

I have nothing against Cotto, but all-time great? He will be in the hall of fame, but possibly more on the fame and accomplishments as far as titles rather than substance. Let's see what he does against a young and once-beaten Canelo. Might change my mind.
