Instead the just want to see GGG fight smaller guys because they feel he can't lose that way.
Who is to argue with him? That's how Vladimir has made a living and that's who controls GGG. That's how Broner became well known, that's how Chavez Jr won fights. Kill yourself making weight and just utilize your size to win fights. GGG is not a small or average size MW, he's a short MW and nothing else. They just use the "his small" to duck Ward.

You want a competitive fight between 2 top p4p fighters? Kovalev/Ward can easily be made and neither have a fight scheduled.

A guy like Kovalev deserves his spot because he earned it with hopkins and pascal.

There is however a distinction to be made between someone demanding one WITHIN THE SAME DIVISION THEY HOLD A TITLE IN, and someone throwing one out there to someone in a higher division.
That being said, my position has ALWAYS been that if GGG ever fights Ward, it should be at 168, period. If they want to dangle catchweight offers in order to get a better revenue split, or venue, thats fine, but the fight needs to be at 168.
But if you want to compare the Cotto and GGG scenarios, what Cotto is doing would be the same thing as if GGG fought someone other than Ward at 168, won a title, and then demanded a 164 fight with Ward in a 168 unification, claiming "im not a real super middle doe"....

Originally posted by KnickTillDeaTh View PostThe only distinction is the title, there's no difference in catch weights. A catch weight is a smaller fighters request of a bigger fighter to drop a few pounds to make the fight a little more even on the scales. Catch weights are traditionally won by the more skilled fighter, whether that fighter is going up in weight or down. People say oh he wants the advantage that's why hes requesting a catch weight, that's simply not true when you look at the majority of catch weights, the weight played no role in the victory as the better fighter mostly still wins. GGG dropping 3 pounds to fight Cotto is not a big deal, just like Hopkins dropping 3 pounds to fight DLH wasn't a big deal, Hopkins still won, at an older age no less. I have never been a fan of catch weights but it gets us the fights we want to see, and Cotto vs. GGG is one of those fights, Ward vs GGG is another, Canelo vs Chavez jr is another. All these fights look to be heading to Catch weights if they did happen, and I wouldn't be angry about it.
