When was the last time Cotto fought a guy who wasnt a cripple and at a catchweight? Let me tell you, he lost to Austin Trout.

Why do you even waste your breath on a catchweight Diva who won his belt by draining an old cripple and who got totally outboxed by a bum in Austin Trout?

This is a thread about Cotto/Lemieux and of course Pac and Floyd come up lol. Floyd used a few catchweights and Pac used more than anyone...he is the catchweight King without a doubt. Cotto is now becoming like his stablemate Pac and using them 24/7.

Lemieux is right, Cotto is full of it. He made a mistake this time though because Canelo is more of a JMW so the catchweight won't do much.

Pacquiao has moved up 9 divisions only started using catch weights in 8th division fights...

This is my take on catchweights. I have no issues with it when used to even the playing field between 2 figthers who are 1 weight class apart. For example...When Pac faced Margarito. Margarito spent the majority of his career at WW therefore a catchweight was justified and did not drain or hurt Margarito to come down a few lbs. Come fight night Pac weighed 148lbs while Margarito weighed 165lbs. So who had the advantage??

Cotto/Canelo is another fight where I have no issue with the cw. Neither fighter is a full fledged MW therefore there's no sacrifice to either fighter by having to make a specified cw. The fight is being held at 155 which falls within MW territory. Just because the fighters arent weighing in at the full limit does not mean it isnt a MW fight. MW is from 154.01 - 160.

Where I do have a problem is when its being used to purposely gain an advantage on an opponent and even then there's some grey area because if the opponent feels uncomfortable making a specified weight, then dont take the fight only to cry about it after.

GGG/Cotto is a more realistic fight than GGG/Ward.

- Cotto does fight in the MW division

- GGG doesnt fight in the SMW divison

- Cotto and GGG are only about 4-5lbs apart on where they weight in

- GGG and Ward are 12lbs apart from where they weigh in

- Cotto has a MW strap that he's holding hostage too and is GGG's mandatory

- GGG doesnt have a SMW strap that he's holding hostage and isnt Wards mandatory.


Winner of Cotto/Canelo should face GGG while Ward should face off with Kovalev as they are only 3lbs apart.

You should know about catch weights. You were against it when it was done to Cotto. Remember 1 pound makes a big difference.
