Ali fights with Doug jones, shavers and jimmy young were good close bouts. You can debate them all you want but he still did enough to pull out the win. Floyd had questionable wins against Maidana 1 and Castillo, but still won.
The differents between the two is that Ali fought in an era of the heavyweight division where it's considered the best competition of all time. If Ali had just blown through every fighter he had fought he'd be considered the consensus number 1 fight of all time. You read any reputable Atg list of fighters and Ali is never number 1. The highest is maybe 3 and 5. Which is where he belongs because of the era and level of competition he competed in.
In Floyds era it's not even close to being the best era of all time. The level of opposition isn't the same as in years past. And the number of champions make being a champion watered down. It's just that's the issue Floyd has when people rank him. Considering the level of competition and when he fought the top guys hurts Floyds. So IMO 20th of all time for Floyd is very good considering all things.
