PBC would of been better off starting off with fewer channels at consistent day and times and loading up those cards. Instead we got massive mismatches spread across like 8 different channels and subchannels at all kinds of days and times that to the common sports fan is too difficult to keep up with. Fights that should be undercards are now doomed to fail as a headline act.
That's a cop out. Boxing is an established sport, same as baseball. Baseball is aired on different networks on a daily basis. How do you find baseball on TV?

I get it, shows like BAD or WCB are generally Sat night. Boxing, the sport, is available at different times on different networks. It is easy to find.

Small cards are going to be headlined by smaller fights. You can't expect every card to be headlined by a name. Sometimes its the sport that is being sold, not a specific boxer.

He wants to shut them out until he's the only player left - at that point he can sign every fighter to promotional agreement with lower salaries, drop the advisor role and demand big bucks from TV networks: UFC of boxing.

The ONLY fighters who will benefit from this are those who fight now whilee PBC is burning big bucks on the loss-leader strategy for a couple of years. If it works, no fighter will have enough leverage to ask for fair compensation.
Lots of speculations & assumptions here...

      Either way...

So why is it ok for HBO & Showtime to have exclusive rights to fighters...

but its a problem if PBC does it?

Quality > Quantity. Spreading medicore cards over a plethora of networks on different dates and timeslots isnt the key to growing. Quality cards along with consistency and establishing your brand on 1 or 2 major networks is the key.

Thanks, Pigeons & Javi, for enlightening Deevel & others (me included, although I have my DVR set to record all PBC fights on all of the channels it airs on). But consider this; the mantra of PBC is to bring more boxing to the masses, especially the casual fan. The hard cores will find & tune in to just about any match. However, with the many channels that these fights air on, there really needs to be better marketing/advertising across the channels in order to reach the casual fan base. If casuals don't know where to find the fights, they'll miss them. If they have to look too hard for them, they'll likely just tune in elsewhere, because they're casuals and can take or leave boxing.

Besides, we are in the digital age of TV/cable. you type boxing in and every show comes up. I mean a ****ing monkey can literally find pbc in 90 seconds.

My guess is for now he has to keep time buys because (you wouldn't answer yesterday when I asked you) ESPN will not be able to give prime time once college football, NFL, NCAA and NBA get started as they have other commitments.

I mean really dude, how much effort does it take to find boxing on cable/directTV/AppleTV in 2015?

They have an idea of each guys style, their background, they've picked the guy they associate the most with etc... I'd say the matchups on PBC so far have been good... Not great ... But the potential is definitely there and whenever he decides to turn up the heat I can't see HBO being able to keep up... They simply don't have enough fire power.
Yo you down to go to the Tarver fight on the 14th??? PM me let me know homie!!!

              My point exactly....

The average casual isnt going to go to the lengths of researching who's fighting who on what time and on what channel and on what date. They want an established go to channel where they know there will be boxing on x day and at x time on x channel.

Establish a go to network to watch boxing on a set time and date is how you grow your fanbase.
I like the flexible schedule imo... if something comes up on that date (such as another sporting event etc), they don't have to stick to that said date & time.. they can do it the next day etc...

Also, if I work Friday nights & off on saturdays... & they start programming boxing only on fridays... im gonna pretty much miss every fight live on tv... imo that would suck big time

(example... I get out of work at 5 on saturdays so I miss the main event for PBC when they show fights starting at 4pm. But thank god its not like that every saturday)

Yes, advertising/promotion is the issue, not moving it to different channels at different times.

Die hard fans can barely keep up and you expect causal fans to know a show one week on sunday at noon and then a month later a show on sunday night. The ratings have been weak and on the decline for PBC because casual fans don't care about it and damn sure are not going to flip between 8 different channels at all different times of day for these fights.
You post here all the time... did you have those advertisements turned off?

                    • All you guys are talking about how easy it is to find fights... If it's so easy why is no one watching? Because the matchmaking sucks on top of that. And yet this whole website is not the audience PBC is trying to get to watch. Boxing fans will find boxing, it's not rocket science. I don't know when the next MMA card is, that's why they do commercials. MMAJunkie42069 knows this **** so he wouldn't be who the commercial was for.

You don't gain NEW fans/audience/clients by moving around your clothing store/TV show. I keeps seeing Dunn say NBA, MLB, NFL... Yeah, we get it they are different channels Dunn. They also get 3-100x's the ratings boxing gets and they are on ESPN ALL the time. There is literally a 24/7 sports network (5 of them at least) that tell you all about the NBA and NFL.

These ratings are also from home teams having their home fans watch. Those teams have been around for 50-100 years on some cases... Boxing doesn't have that loyalty to any fighter. Boxing is a sport but it's nothing like the other sports, the comparison to a TV show is more valid than a sporting event. But again this is only part of the equation, better matchmaking would lead to better ratings as well. I mean how do you really get people to tune in, as casuals to a 30-0 versus a fighter is 33-7 or whatever Paulie was, no one is watching that.
