Hopefully more people are intrigued by Kovalev when he faces better opponents.
Very true. Exciting KO artists - even when in mismatches - are good for boxing cause they can make casual fans come over to the dark side. More fans = more money = more big fights.

      Much better than some boxers.

Andre Ward on BET scored 325 thousand viewers with a 0.09 demographic rating to finish in 71st place in Saturday's cable ratings list.

1m seems about avg for a name boxer on HBO it's nothing special. When was the last HBO main that didn't peak at a million ?

It's not a fair comparison to say it did good againsr Wards #s on BET. I'm sure Kov #s on BET would be equally dismal. If Ward fought Smith on HBO he'd probably clear a million easy.

When you factor in the fact that it was on a Sat evening during the middle of the summer when many people/families are out or away, it's a pretty good #.

Even I was away and wasnt able to catch it.

Surprisingly good numbers, Kovalev always brings entertainment, HBO always does a great job showcasing it.

Again, if you're gonna host a mismatch, at least show me some violence and some highlight reel action, Sergey brings all that.

it's basically proof that kovalev now has a core fanbase of 1m viewers who will tune in to watch him fight anybody. it probably bodes well for any future ppv events he is involved in

Slightly better than Golovkin-Geale on the same weekend last year (984,000 viewers) and Geale was a former champion and supposedly Golovkin's toughest test at the time.

You do realize BET wouldn't have Kovalev headlining a boxing telecast?

Then why didn't he have that ugly mismatch on HBO?

Did they turn it down because Smith was coming off 2 losses?
