Comments Thread For: Stevenson Will Take 50-50 on Kovalev, Networks To Bid

You know Haymon is working with a huge pot, and isn't concerned with taking heavy losses (yet). HBO cannot go up against that, nor should it.I despise Haymon with a passion but I have to agree with Yvon Michel in that they have to go with whoever offers the most money. If the deal on the table was a fixed amount offer, not dependant on offers and was an acceptable amount, it would be a different story. But with a 50-50 split, you go with the highest bidder. As Kovalev has an exclusive contract with HBO, then perhaps you give them the opportunity to match the highest offer instead of a blind bidding process. But nothing more than that.Comment

^This right here...Kovalev's HBO deal isn't a problem in itself. HBO could choose to let Kovalev out for one fight if they lose the bidding for the fight. That's what commonly happens in the case of purse bids.
But in this case Duva is choosing to do what's best for the network (HBO) over doing what's best for the fighter. You can't argue that putting the fight out to bid isn't in the fighter's best interest...yet Duva won't do that. Too bad Kovalev won't stop her from doing that.Comment

HBO did not pay kovalev 3.25 million to fight jean pascal. HBO has a finite amount that they will spend on a championship boxing card.
if he collected that much in purses, it was because jean pascal brought in canadian ppv money.Comment

I don't think you understand......Kov is signed to a contract and faces litigation if he fights on a channel other than hbo. Michel, Stevenson and Al Haymon can say they want this fight as much as they like but they're only saying it because it cannot happen and therefore it is them putting the block on it whilst blaming Kov"sTeam... It doesn't wash here.!You should only blame Duva and HBO , Stevenson team make sense , you cant just ask them to get less money and fight on the rival network it doesnt make ANY sense , they go to a bid and who ever wins it wins it , **** HBO forcing duva to back away and deny us the fight , they should pay more if they really want it......
Stevenson is 38 almost this fight is almost dead , and i want Kovalev to KTFO Stevenson
.
HBO days as a monopoly are over but they arent going out without a fight thats for sure.Comment

Fine. Adonis Stevenson can go ahead and fight a top 50 168lber, while Kovalev continues to take out the best in the division and walking the path towards greatness.
This plodding, one-dimensional, glass-chinned duck wants NOTHING to do with Kovalev and would get KO'd inside of 3 rounds, without a doubt.Comment

Exactly. They split 6m and the bulk of it was Canadian money. This amounts to a lot for big time fights, and not so much for the kinds of bums Stevenson's been fighting.Comment

Yeah it was more money (guarantee) from HBO for Kov fight. Not true. The first excuse after Stevenson signed with Haymon was that they were passing on Kovalev to fight Hopkins for more money then was offered by HBO and Kovalev. Only for Stevenson to get called out by Hopkins for Haymon pulling dirty tactics trying to stall the negotiations. Hopkins saw it and aired him out and bounced and fought Kovalev a fight that took no time to make as compared to the weeks and weeks BS they were using to try and game Hopkins.

The fight CAN happpen on HBO. All that needs to happen is for HBO to put up the most money.Because he can't. He's under contract that's why. Which Stevenson and his people know but are leaving that part out and using this purse bid as a smoke screen. Stevenson is a free agent right? So he can fight anywhere including HBO right? Kovalev is not a free agent and is under contract with HBO. Why are they refusing to have the fight on HBO?
1 + 1 = 2
What's so difficult about this simple concept to understand?Comment

Yeah but hbo likes to lock up fighters to multi-fight deals for peanuts compared to what pbc pays. Fakk hbo, #freeboxingComment
