Comments Thread For: Stevenson Will Take 50-50 on Kovalev, Networks To Bid

Yvon Michel, promoter for WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson, says his fighter has no problem with accepting a 50-50 deal to unify with IBF/WBO/WBA light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev - but Stevenson will NOT accept a contract which automatically orders the fight to be carried on HBO.

Kovalev's promoter, Kathy Duva of Main Events, withdrew her fighter from a WBC mandated purse bid earlier this year - because her boxer is under a multi-fight contract with HBO and there was a high probability that her company would get outbid - forcing Kovalev to fight Stevenson on a rival network.

but kovalev can't fight on another network so stevenson will take the deal which isn't possible? how about if the fight on hbo pays you more than a fight on pbc then you take it instead of trying to take a fantasy offer.

You should only blame Duva and HBO , Stevenson team make sense , you cant just ask them to get less money and fight on the rival network it doesnt make ANY sense , they go to a bid and who ever wins it wins it , **** HBO forcing duva to back away and deny us the fight , they should pay more if they really want it......
Stevenson is 38 almost this fight is almost dead , and i want Kovalev to KTFO Stevenson .
HBO days as a monopoly are over but they arent going out without a fight thats for sure.

Complete BS and you can thank Haymon for this. This fight was signed and done and then Haymon creeps in and signs Stevenson and now we got this crap. If Stevenson was signed to literally any other promoter this fight would of been already happened. He has no intentions of fighting on HBO despite the fact that Stevenson supposedly has no contract with a "promoter" or network. If he is a "free agent" only signed to Haymon this fight being on HBO should be no issue. Kovalev is signed HBO fighter he can't elsewhere.

The purse bid was a sham from day one to refuse negotiating directly. Also if it did go to purse bid there is no guarantee the fight happens. Remember Roc Nation over bid Haymon in a purse bid. But even after losing the bid Haymon refused to let his fighter be on a Roc Nation card and forced him to vacate the belt rather then fight an opponent he wanted him to fight. If Duva outbid Haymon we could of seen the same result. Haymon wants the purse bid because it's a win win for him. He can over bid to put the fight on PBC (knowing Duva can't do this) or if he loses he does what he did with Quillen and still stops the fight from happening.
