Anyhow, I'd pick Canelo to beat GGG if they fought.

Pac fought Cotto at 145, for his welterweight title.
There is no question about that.
And, Golovkin just tried to pull the " A-side " card with Andre Ward.
So, considering that Cotto is the A-side when it comes to Golovkin, Gennady will most likely have to jump when Cotto says, or go and kick rocks.
In Pac-Cotto, Pac was the A-side, hence the 145 catchweight. If Cotto was the A-side in that fight, it would have been at 147.
The difference in the Cotto-GGG situation is that GGG is the mando. Now sure, as the A-side in Cotto-GGG, Cotto can request a catchweight. But if GGG refuses and the fight goes to bid, then Cotto will have to decide whether to do the fight at 160, or be stripped of the title. And likewise GGG will have a decision to make. Does he accept the catchweight from Cotto, or does he force the WBC to strip Cotto and miss out on the payday and the opportunity to smash Cottos face in?
But both questions are moot, because Cotto wont beat Canelo anyways........Last edited by OnePunch; 07-26-2015, 07:12 PM.

Critical thinking tells me that you should not be able to negotiate a weight advantage based on how many tickets you can sell.
Critical thinking tells me that rationale is the very opposite of the term " P4P ".
Critical thinking tells me that fight should have been at 147 regardless ^^

* Cotto got shafted by Pacquiao, at catchweight, for his welterweight title
* Cotto heard that Golovkin offered to drop to 154 for Mayweather
* Cotto knows that Golovkin demanded a catchweight for Ward
Considering those 3 facts, Golovkin can prepare to fight {insert name of bum here} for the vacant strap.....
Team Hypekin just attempted to strong-arm Ward, based on the fact that they regard Gennady as an A-side draw, despite never selling a PPV..... they are fkn dreaming if they think they can pull that rubbish with Cotto, who finally learnt his worth after leaving Top Rank.

And I am more than happy with a 155 catchweight for that fight also.
" a-side doe "
Catchweights are completely unnecessary, and completely unacceptable..... but if Golovkin is going to pull that rubbish with Ward, then he can expect to be eating a shhtload of lettuce before fighting Cotto/Canelo, because Cotto/Canelo > Golovkin hands down as a draw.
Cotto will just walk, and good for him.....
* Cotto only weighs 153
* Cotto is a much bigger draw than Golovkin
* Golovkin tried to manipulate Ward on the scale because he is the A-side
* Golovkin offers nothing to Cotto

Surprisingly, we actually agree on most of this. I cant stand catchweights (no matter who is demanding them). We already have 17 friggin divisions, thats plenty. But thats the way the business goes these days, and my contempt for it is not likely enough to change the minds of the people running things, lol.
As for the 164 offer, to me it depends on what it is used for. If they threw that out there just to troll Ward, because they already had the Lemieux thing working, then thats fine. Or if they were going to use it to negotiate a better money split, or venue location, or whatever, thats fine. As long as in the end the fight happens at 168. And I say that because after GGG puts Ward on the floor, I dont want to hear any excuses about Ward being drained, and blah blah blah. The only thing a catchweight does is to taint the victory for the winner, and provide excuses for the loser.Last edited by OnePunch; 07-26-2015, 07:47 PM.

So basically, the gutless 164 demand for Ward likely killed the Cotto fight as well.
Why would Cotto/Canelo fight Golovkin without a catchweight now ?
They simply would not.
And based on Team Golovkins strategy, that is fine.
When Golovkin thinks he is the A-side, he will demand a catchweight..... but when Golovkin is the B-side, he thinks that he can insist upon the full divisional limit, simply because it suits him?
What ******ed fanboy logic.
Cotto will tell him to go kick rocks.
This is what I believe.....
1) Team Golovin know that 164 is impossible for Ward, so they blatantly ducked him by insisting upon a catchweight, when they were more than happy to fight Froch/Chavez at 168.
2) Team Golovkin know that Cotto will not fight him without a catchweight, because Cotto has stated in black and white that EVERY middleweight fight will be at catchweight..... so by saying this, they are killing the fight, and hoping to pick up the title when vacated.
Gennady Golovkin, has the exact resume that he wanted.
There is no " dey duckin me doe "..... he is not avoided.
It is what it is.

It is impossible to "duck" someone that isnt even in your division. And they didnt bother with catchweight offers with Chavez and Froch, because the economics of those fights are different, since both those fighters actually have fans.
And everyone knows that Cotto will vacate anyways if he beats Canelo, because he wont fight GGG at 154.1, 157, 160, or any weight.......

BUT, when you consider the " anyone from 154-168 " marketing spin that Team Golovkin have used to hype/propel his career over the last 3-4 years..... and the fact that they propositioned Chavez/Froch at the full divisional limit..... makes it a hard argument.
Not a good look, thats for sure.

The same weight-cut that Team Golovkin requested from Ward..... 4lbs.
I dont think that Canelo will fight Golovkin at 160 either.
