The fight couldn't happen because Kovalev is contractually signed to HBO, Adonis does not have a contract with Showtime but he is affiliated with Showtime and obviously PBC. Had it gone to a purse bid no way in hell would duva out-due Haymon. Had it gone to a purse bid and Haymon won, fight would have not happened because Kovalev has a contract with HBO. Only way it would happen is if HBO/Showtime work together same as with May/Pac but no way that would have happened because the fight is not as massive as the May/Pac. Kovalev would thrash Stevenson anyway. Kovalev has a better resume...HBO made Stevenson. Ever since he switched to Haymon he's been fighting unknowns except for Fonfara who gave him a hell of a fight.

Every time he mentions his name he defers....you talking out your A**. Give me two instances where Kovalev has deferred.....il wait. Beterbiev's team backed out of the Chilemba fight. You decline Chilemba and fight someone named Alexander Johnson and expect a win will lead to Kovalev..na it doesn't work that way.

I agree, he shouldn't mention him. Shouldn't waste his breath. Stevenson is talented no doubt but ever since he went with al Haymon his career has sunk. Yes he's making more money but no notable fights. At least HBO provided him with 2 notable fights...Dawson and Cloud.

Im not looking for excuses but you bring up great points, MY point is that he should STFU if he KNOWS the fight cant be made because of political Boxing reasons. Its not Stevensons fault Kathy Duva had to whore herself to HBO to give Kovalev a platform. Stevenson made a great business decision signing to Haymon (I dislike Stevenson) but yet people made a HUGE deal trashing him as if he was scared of fighting of Kovalev(I was one of these people) Its not Stevensons fault at all, and thats really the point, I dont think he beats Kovalev. The point is that Stevenson isnt at fault, and from casual eyes and everyone really, will always be seen as Kovalev pulling out of fight. Rightfully so, they nolonger have the benefit of the doubt and Stevenson is the TRUE champion of the division. His team showed up.

It's only seen as Kov ducking by those who are too bone-headed to understand the biz end of the sport. And besides, Kov is just expressing his own personal views of wanting to get to ******man. Nothing wrong with that. And you can bet Kov will take his frustrations out on ******man for the delays.

And another thing... a few say ******man has done his time blah blah blah... Fast forward 5-10 years when the idiot can barely get 5K for an ESPN fight, and you watch him then. He'll more than likely slip back into the criminal life. I'd almost guarantee it.

But hey, we are fortunate to have guys like Kov who would like nothing better than to transcend all the politics of the sport and clash with any and all challenges. He and Jackson make a great team, Jackson has good strategies, Kov listens, and he trains his guts out. And when the time comes, I doubt he'll duck any of the challenges.

Duva did not ask for a purse bid. What she did ask for was that Kovalev be the WBC mandatory for Stevenson. That was granted. GYM was the one that actually asked for the purse bid. And from what I understand they asked for the purse bid from the beginning, before they even negotiated with Main Events. Usually purse bids are only needed when a deal cannot be made between the two parties involved. To me, and I may be wrong, it seems that it was GYM that tried to pull a fast one and Duva bailed on the purse bid when they did so.

That's the closest explanation anyone has ever given so far. And as I understand it, exactly as it went down.

That's because Beterbiev NEEDS MORE FIGHTS. He's still in the 'Fighting Cans Stage', or haven't you noticed? He has NINE fights so far. He'll get his chance eventually.

Purse Bids supersede exclusiveness because the winning promoter promotes the fight. With the fighters benefiting from the bidded-Purses in question.
