It's hard to believe people are really this ****** so I'm going to guess they are debating just to agitate GGG fans.

There's no similarities between WARD AND THE GGG catchweight and the catch weights Cotto and Mayweather have asked for.

Cotto is one of the middleweight champions. He's obligated to defend his title at that limit.

Mayweather was on record saying catchweight were bull**** but less then a year later asked for one against Canelo. And he had titles in that division.

GGG is a middleweight. Ward is a Supermiddle weight. GGG has zero obligation to fight Ward but he will if Ward comes down halfway. It's a special attraction.

Fighters have come down in weight before ( Judah, Mundine, etc) so why can't Ward.

Let's be honest Ward doesn't want the fight. He's huffing and puffing but at the end of the day he ain't signing no contracts.

... Ward is still bluffing -- he will not agree upon such a split on the grounds of "who has this guy ever fought?", a.s.o.
Nothing is happening unless Ward gets babied. Princess mentality.

Roc nations will probably find themselves in a tough spot and Ward will go into retirement.

Yeah. Ward wouldn't accept the smaller percentage of the purse, and that leaves him without a GGG fight.

... While still in euphoria, following his first fight on HBo, Golovkin stated that he "fight anyone from 154 to 168"...
But he never mentioned at what particular weight he planned to fight each one...

The real fight for me would be Ward-Kovalev. I’d look forward to the possibility of a Kovalev fight more than I would be disappointed in a Golovkin fight not happening.

Golovkin is already legitimate in my eyes and those of pretty much all the professional boxing analysts as well. If he were to beat Ward it would add little or nothing for me. As for making him a huge star, he is already a bigger star in the boxing world than Ward is today with viewing numbers about triple what Ward can pull and at least double the paid attendance figures. Beating Ward would not make Golovkin any bigger a star.

Could GGG move back down after a fight at 168? Probably. But to do it properly and safely at his age he should take about three months to gain the muscle mass and get accustomed to it and then another three months or so to lose the weight carefully and properly. That means just the Ward fight should take half a year of prep, before and after. As a result, such a fight should bring in at least double the revenue of a regular fight as it will take the place of two regular fights. To really be worth the effort and risk, it should bring in TRIPLE the revenue of a regular fight. At this point in time, a Ward fight would not bring in that kind of money and as a result is not worth the effort and risk required.
