In his fight with Pacquiao, he had fought in Macau, China for the first time. It's a different experience for any fighter, and the traveling/ time zone/ crowd/ can mess up your rhythm.

He is very under-rated. He's a very intelligent guy. Has a Masters from NYIT. A student of boxing. A good athlete.

    Very under-rated.

        Algieri made his bed

They speak about him highly and mention he has very good boxing skills and is underrated. However, just because of the fashion in which he lost to the second best fighter of this era, he is talked about as a joke. He beat Provodnikov who may be limited but you have to go through hell to beat. He also schooled Emmanuel Taylor who beat the guy "who gives Floyd his first loss" in Karim Mayfield and I fancy him to beat guys like Broner and can see him being a top contender.

Even when he lost to Khan, many people say it's Khan being bad rather than Chris being good. John David Jackson also said Chis has good power but never planted his feet. He KO'd 7 sparring partners in camp for Khan and now he isn't traine by a Kickboxer, he is finally out of his cage. War Algieri!

        Here he is sparring Maidana:

He actually handles Maidana well tbh
When he boxed Provodnikov and won the WBO title, he had a simple choice to make; take the fistful of money to go to Macau and fight Pacquiao (hoping to win or look good) or build your reputation as a 140 champion, before an eventual move up.

Because Algieri seemed good enough to beat every 140 fighter that they could've put him in with on HBO, sans Terrence Crawford.

That wasn't the path he followed, so he's got to live with the fallout.

For a second, just imagine Algieri if he'd followed the former path; beats Provodnikov in June, beats Provodnikov by wide decision in October, title defense against Dulorme-Lundy winner in February/March 2015, before making another title defense May/June 2015 (unsure of who would be viable).

Algieri could've been three defenses into his title run at 140, at the same time that Danny Garcia (140 kingpin) was leaving the division. He would've been three defenses into his run, as the only full 140 champion featured on HBO, based out of the NYC media market, who happens to also be a well-spoken, suburban white guy with movie star looks.

He simply made the wrong choice; he lost his title, lost whatever leverage he could've had with HBO, and now he's fight at welterweight, a division where he might be in the top 20 of fighters in the division. those are the breaks.

I voted no. I think most fans go by what they see. I know I do. I watch all the important fights and judge the fighters by what I see. I saw him get lucky to beat Provo but still he looked like a good boxer with courage and toughness but little punching power. Then Algieri did lots of talking about how he would KO Pacquiao. Pacquiao beat the hell out of him by an almost unheard of score of 120 to 102. Pacquiao made a joke out of Algieri although Algieri still showed guts and toughness. It just seemed like he couldn't fight or punch much. He got a new trainer and looked very good against Khan. He took the fight to Khan and never took a backward step. He hurt Khan several times and earned a draw on my score card. Now I think Algieri has become a pretty good fighter with the heart and chin he always had an better skills with the help of his new trainer. I am now sort of an Algieri fan.

It's hard for me to imagine him beating Provodnikov by a wide decision because I honestly think Algieri would lose that rematch. Algieri is a good fighter but so is Provo.

I don't think so, he's knocked more for the cage comment than his fighting ability I think. The same way Rod Salka is diminished for being a low ranked, no named, weight below fighter, against a so called champion. Can't blame them for taking a high paying opportunity even though they shouldn't have been in there in the first place.

Yeah, this smells like a not-so-subtle pro-Khan thread.

I think Algierie is a very good solid fighter. His new more aggressive physical style he employed vs khan is a good change for him. He pushed khan big time. He's a tough out for anyone at 147.

Algieri is a decent fighter. B- id say.
I have plenty of respect for him. The guy has solid skills and plenty of heart.

Obviously the NSB regulars have declared him a "bum" because he got destroyed by one of the best fighters ever, but thats to be expected.

I think it was a style thing. Pacquiao, even at his shotty age, annihilated him badly. Legit, He would had done better against Floyd because he wouldn't lose by 18
