Is Chris Algieri treated unfairly by boxing fans?

Everyone who has trained alongside and sparred Algieri (including the likes of Maidana, Robert Garcia, Mikey Garcia and John Molina Jr) have spoken about how he lives, trains and breathes boxing all year. They speak about him highly and mention he has very good boxing skills and is underrated. However, just because of the fashion in which he lost to the second best fighter of this era, he is talked about as a joke. He beat Provodnikov who may be limited but you have to go through hell to beat. He also schooled Emmanuel Taylor who beat the guy "who gives Floyd his first loss" in Karim Mayfield and I fancy him to beat guys like Broner and can see him being a top contender.

Even when he lost to Khan, many people say it's Khan being bad rather than Chris being good. John David Jackson also said Chis has good power but never planted his feet. He KO'd 7 sparring partners in camp for Khan and now he isn't traine by a Kickboxer, he is finally out of his cage. War Algieri!

    Here he is sparring Maidana:

He actually handles Maidana well tbh

His last fight made me a fan, there's a lot of fighters I'd like to see him in the ring with.

I don't think he's treated unfairly he just doesn't have that highlight win yet. Had he been a hometown kid, I do wonder if that Kahn fight could of been a win for him, that was damn close.

    But still, no highlight win..

I'd say boxing's been treating him good.
But the question is about the boxing fans

I don't think he's treated fairly yet, but I think it's coming. I think fans more and more are starting to respect him, but I think he REALLY needs to win his next fight, regardless of who he ends up fighting. Another effort where he loses competitively or manages to show heart in a lost won't help him.

I had Khan 116-112, Algieri only landed a few punches which were effective but Khan dominated the distance and landed more shots (outboxed him). I'm a fan of his too now and think the Provodnikov win is pretty solid.

Like I said when the khan fight was announced. He didn't deserve the pac fight but khans no pac. And neither are the rest of the welterweights. He's not terrible

Unfortunately, his former trainer's comments during the Pac fight will be with him for the rest of his life. They will never be forgotten and even though he had no responsibility for them, he will never be able to live them down. I think the only way fans really get behind him would be for him to OWN that comment and enter the ring with a t-shirt that says... "You Better Beware!!! I'm out of the cage now!!!" and get some metal band to write him an OUT OF THE CAGE theme song as his entrance theme.

Of course... he damn well better win the first fight he does this in!!!

I don't doubt that score, I need to rewatch the fight, but I do remember khans shots didn't move chris the way chris's moved Kahn. That means something.

I def think his win over ruslan is solid, but he didn't even win as convincingly as he needs to for it to be a marquee win, also doesn't help Lucas just completely smashed Ruslan to bits.

He's a decent enough fighter. He's not awful like people used to make out.
There has been worse fighters who have been praised to the high heavens on these forums.
