That's your opinion and it's kinda irrelevant to a boxer if some online fans think that Fad Chad Dawson would be his best win. Chad hasn't exactly gone on to show that to be the case, has he?

The motivation for a fighter to come back out of retirement is money to feed their family not whether some nerds think that some flavour of the week fighter would be his "best win".

    Hence....irrelevant.
I think the majority of people that matter would say that Dawson would have been his best win and if not his best definitely his second best. Not just the Internet fans.

Some fighters care about legacy to some degree and Dawson would have been good for that.

That speaks more about Calzaghe's career than anything else. That Fad Chad Dawson would be his best win.

Either way none of this changes the fact that he didn't want to risk it with Dawson for whatever reason which makes the statement rich coming from him.

He didn't want to risk fighting in an empty arena for no money. Sure.

You're telling me that the way Dawson's career has developed, it would have enhanced Calzaghe's legacy to a degree that it was worth coming out of retirement for?

Calzaghe would have ducked Golovkin, Ward, DeGale, and Dirrell. Ducked Froch already, so that goes without saying. Calzaghe would have gladly fought Abraham right now though, followed by Bodou Jack and George Groves, call it a career against 50 year old B-Hop at 175.

          When did he duck Froch?

and jones was a star? the only time in the last 5 years that jones had been on hbo was when he was the b-side against trinidad. if jones-calzaghe is a ppv why wouldn't pavlik-calzaghe be a ppv? pavlik was a star that fought on hbo, jones wasn't and yet they still put that fight on ppv.

none of this matters much since calzaghe-jones ppv completely bombed doing 200k. this 10 million number seems like a complete joke. where does that money come from? it was a complete 50-50 revenue split so jones made 10 million as well? bollocks!

cotto-martinez did 21k fans at madison and they made a 4.7 live gate. jones calzaghe did 14k fans so lets say ticket prices were similar thats around 3 million. the ppv brought in about 200k and the cable companies take half of that right off the bat. so that's 5 left for both fighters split evenly 2.5 for each. split the live gate evenly 1.5. this is ignoring all the other people who have pieces of the revenue btw and we still get only 4 million. the real amount is considerably lower.

did calzaghe have a 12 million dollar deal from uk revenue? only 500k people watched the fight and they showed it at 4:30 in the morning in the uk. doesn't really sound like a fight they would pay that much for.

the 10 million dollars is seemingly not true. if the majority came from uk sources then why couldn't he fight pavlik or dawson? they are paying for calzaghe not the opponent if jones was deemed 12 million worthy.

also back to the calzaghe made 10 million to fight jones impossible number. who were the promoters for that fight? calzaghe and jones themselves. in order to find out how much the fighters made they had to be contacted and apparently calzaghe or his team flat out lied.

Calzaghe’s purse for the fight at Madison Square Garden, his first attempt at self-promotion, was largely dependent on the pay-per-view revenues from HBO.

he admitted the figures were far lower than everyone involved expected. “The pay-per-view numbers were very disappointing,” he said. “They took everyone by surprise.

so calzaghe made 10 million largely from ppv buys and they were disappointed...this means they were expecting more than 10 million to fight roy jones? the numbers don't add up at all and either does their story.

Calzaghe-Jones did bomb but it still did more buys than Hopkins vs Pavlik. So tell me again how Pavlik was this huge star?

hmmm, the negative comments about the great joe calzaghe must be coming from the americans..lets see here..joe beat ALL the dangerous americans at the time i seem to remember and roy jones junior (at the time) said he wasnt good enough. when he easily beat the brighton bomber chris eubank snr joe publically stated he wanted jones. jones wasnt fighting outside of pensacola at the time and was fighting for scraps because of it. eubank beat every american, benn beat every american and the great joe calzaghe beat the best of the time including byron mitchell and the supposed middleweight mike tyson jeff lacy who got absolutely battered. joe calzaghes biggest threat was nobody and why? because nobody of the time he was king was good enough plain and simple. now...........fack off.
