GGG agrees to take less so he can finally get a top tier opponent to fight him, thus the fight can get made.

And come on, everyone knows Cotto is scared shitless of GGG
usually pac fans are the ones name calling the floyd boys lol

also, when did Cotto say he doesn't want to fight GGG? Link & quote please.

Its your opinion if he's "scared shitless".

what you expect it was on bet, and ward isnt the type of person that the B in BET support. Put broner on their and he will make break records and crime will stop in atl, compton, chicago, detroit etc.

I still don't get why Ward didn't fight on HBO or even on HBO2. It's not like HBO was going to pay much for it. Roc Nation would have been paying out of pocket either way.

Also, I think this means Leimeux vs N'dam didn't even make the top 100.

Ward just had his tune up after a very long layoff, he's likely going to have another fight of a lesser opponent (better than Smith though) and Golovkin is still trying to accomplish his goals at 160. GGG was only willing to step away from those goals and temporarily move up to 168 if a big money fight presented itself such as Froch or Chavez. Since those are now gone, he's not going to move up in weight until he's at least collected another belt at 160 and/or fights a big name in cotto/Canelo. Which is fine since Ward announced he's staying at 168 and isn't going anywhere himself.

This means Ward will get another fight or two in, Golovkin will get another fight or two in and they'll come together in 2016. Works better for both parties since they'll likely be a lot more money to split after the fight builds itself.

Ward vs Golovkin will be one of boxings biggest fights next year.
Damn the first decent answer here compared to other GGG fans.

Thnx natas for putting it in a clear, unbiased manner.

Ward-Golovkin is either a great HBO main event or a really crappy PPV that sells like 250k tops

you yourself agreed that golovkin was the a-side. he's not going to accept paul smith money for the privilege of fighting ward. being the b-side, maybe ward should lower his price tag (but we all know he won't do that)

This right here. Its possible. Does HBO have confidence?

There is no problem with profitability if GGG loses. Ward would also be a HBO fighter by the time the fight would be made and beating GGG would move his viewership numbers way up for future fights. HBO does not lose no matter who wins that fight. And even if GGG loses, he is still a MW champion and his title defense streak remains intact. It has little effect on his MW status continuing.

It was stated by Loeffler in the past that for the Cotto fight, GGG was willing to be the B side and to take minimum dollars and give in to all of Cotto's demands and Cotto still did not get back to them. I am sure that GGG would be willing to accept any reasonable deal for a Ward fight as long as it made it worthwhile to take the risk of moving up a division. Do not forget that all the risk is on Golovkin as he is the one changing divisions, none at all on Ward. If Ward wants the A side money, he can drop down to 160 for the fight.

Ward wanted too much money to fight a tomato can and HBO refused. So did Showtime. They will not pay premium dollars for a tune up fight against an unranked nobody.
