It was stated by Loeffler in the past that for the Cotto fight, GGG was willing to be the B side and to take minimum dollars and give in to all of Cotto's demands and Cotto still did not get back to them. I am sure that GGG would be willing to accept any reasonable deal for a Ward fight as long as it made it worthwhile to take the risk of moving up a division. Do not forget that all the risk is on Golovkin as he is the one changing divisions, none at all on Ward. If Ward wants the A side money, he can drop down to 160 for the fight.
Ward wanted too much money to fight a tomato can and HBO refused. So did Showtime. They will not pay premium dollars for a tune up fight against an unranked nobody.
You can't just look at profitability from one vantage point. You made the argument so at least look at it from all perspectives and consider those when looking at why HBO is not keen on this fight.
The risk is on GGG because he has yet to defeat a fighter as accomplished as ward.

Ward just had his tune up after a very long layoff, he's likely going to have another fight of a lesser opponent (better than Smith though) and Golovkin is still trying to accomplish his goals at 160. GGG was only willing to step away from those goals and temporarily move up to 168 if a big money fight presented itself such as Froch or Chavez. Since those are now gone, he's not going to move up in weight until he's at least collected another belt at 160 and/or fights a big name in cotto/Canelo. Which is fine since Ward announced he's staying at 168 and isn't going anywhere himself.
This means Ward will get another fight or two in, Golovkin will get another fight or two in and they'll come together in 2016. Works better for both parties since they'll likely be a lot more money to split after the fight builds itself.
Ward vs Golovkin will be one of boxings biggest fights next year.Originally posted by bigjavi973 View PostDamn the first decent answer here compared to other GGG fans.
Thnx natas for putting it in a clear, unbiased manner.

No problem. I don't get why some people feel the need to make excuses since there's nothing really to excuse here. They both want to fight each other it's just that it makes much more sense next year versus now especially considered Ward has been away for so long. They'll fight eventually, GGG just needs his "big" fight or at least unifications and Ward needs to get back into his groove and back in the media.
Side note: it's always funny to me that certain people claim someone is a bum but only offer the greatest fighter possible that could potentially beat them. "Pacquiao is a bum, Mayweather will beat him!" "Golovkin is a bum, Ward will beat him!" Ok, those are two really fucking good fighters, no shame losing there. If that's the only person that can beat him must not be a bum. Likewise, Floyd wouldn't have been a bum if he lost to Pac and Ward wouldn't be a bum if he lost to Golovkin. All solid fighters. It's a compliment that the only person people say can likely beat Golovkin is the undefeated Gold Medalist and former pound-4-pound #2 fighter on the planet who is a weight class above him. It's like saying Rigondeaux is a bum because he'd lose to Nicholas Walters or some crap.

although, the wild card would be if roc nation agree to take a loss to make the fight happen. andre ward has a sugar daddy promoter unlike golovkin (k2 are almost entirely dependent on hbo funding)

Have you considered that HBO hurt the profitability of this potential fight by downplaying it so much?

It's an HBO fight. Maybe if HBO hadn't used all its platforms to downplay the fight, it might have a better chance to be profitable and excite fans more.
Did you ever consider that?
GOLOVKIN AND HIS TEAM HAVE MADE IT VERY CLEAR THAT THEY WILL NOT MOVE UP OR DOWN FOR ANYTHING OTHER THAN A PPV FIGHT. SO FORGET ABOUT THIS FIGHT HAPPENING ON REGULAR PPV, IT JUST AIN'T GONNA HAPPEN!!!!!
Clear enough for you?

How about if the fight is on regular HBO that Ward comes down to 160 instead? That seems fair to me. It's a good trade off.
So you want GGG to fight a "weight drained" Ward??? I thought you didn't like catchweights and what not?
