what was it about Margarito that made some of you think he was a threat to beat Money

Obviously the option: "they just wanted floyd to lose to anyone...hoped he'd lose anyway". It's an old story...
Floyd built himself up as a villain and it worked very well for him. He annoys the hell out his haters and they always throw in a new name who is "ducked by Floyd". Pacquiao was the "go to" option for them till May 2nd but sometimes they threw in other names. If there's a single solid fighter around ww who didn't fight Floyd they will find him and accuse Mayweather for ducking.Comment

I mean just imagine how entertaining it would be. Floyd would be on his A game countering Margarito while the close to 6 ft Welterweight relentlessly stalks trying to take out the P4P fighter of the day throwing nonstop.Comment

Margarito at the time Money came to WW, was the best fighter in the division. He was big, had some power, relentless and iron chinned. Floyd is also at fault here for the Margarito mystique because he gave every excuse in the book not to fight him and then went on to fight lesser opponents.
For the record, I do think Margarito was avoided because of the things above, but also because he has a reach advantage over Mayweather. Margarito would be able to return fire and hit Mayweather. Look at the folks Mayweather has fought over the last 15 years. I think maybe 1 or 2 of them had the same reach or a very slight advantage. DLH was one. Maidana was a small Margarito with short arms. Fester on that for a minute...Comment

No one would have ever beaten floyd by boxing him, except someone like Tommy Hearns. The perfect kind of fighter to beat him is someone physically bigger, stronger, strong chinned and relentless like Margarito. Sure Floyd would have boxed his ears off for at least the first 6-7 rounds, and we know Floyd can box all night long, but Margarito was an animal at 147 and turned the heat up big time in the latter half of a fight. He got better as the fight went on, he was absolutely relentless. It would have been an interesting fight and its a shame it didn't happen.Comment

That legitimacy very seriously questionable, especially considering how the rematch played out, and the fact that he was caught cheating his very next fight against an opponent who people gave much less of a chance of beating him.
You think he would cheat against Mosley, but not cheat against Cotto in the much bigger fight?
That was years later and two career damaging beatings later when Margarito was finished.Comment

i will say this, the ONLY thing margs had going for him was his ability to drain himself to make WW and then blow up 25+ lbs on fifht night and having a major size advantage combined with his decent stamina, that is all but even then his punches werent that devastating because of the way he threw them,he was never taught the fundamentals of boxing.the only reason he beat cotto was because cotto is a bum with horrible staminaComment
