    May/Pac = SRL/Hagler?

I was reading an article which listed Ray Leonard's attempt at gaining the middleweight crown by defeating Marvin Hagler as one of the greatest superfights ever...I'm not sure if I'd agree with that. Yes it was a tremendous event at the time and it generated huge amounts of money but in reality, only one man was in control and looked like a winner. People claim it could have been Hagler's fight, no, hey say it should have been. I don't see it that way. Leonard was so good that night, he made Hagler look like an amateur, swinging wildly and missing. Maybe winning 4 rounds at most.

Does that sound familiar? To me it seems a lot like May/Pac. Years down the line, those who cry robbery or unfair win will have become louder. 20 years down the line, it may well be regarded as a fight Pacquiao should have gotten a decision in. In reality, Pacquiao, shoulder injury or not, didn't really come close to beating Mayweather (close 4th round not withstanding).

I'm surprised similarities haven't been drawn between the two super "fights" which were nothing more than mega events.

More like Chavez/Whitaker except the decision was correct.

5 or 6 years ago it would have been as great as SRL/Hagler.

No I think 20 years from now it will probably be considered easier than it was.

Why was that fight so great? It's pretty one sided, I can't see an argument for Hagler even making it close tbh.

No because even today people will fight about the Leonard-Hagler decision.

In some ways you are correct, but that long running debate about the decision in that fight gave it something to hang its hat on because it was that sort of debatable fight.

Mayweather-Manny doesn't have anything going for it like that.

Nobody cares anymore, threads about this fight are seriously annoying at this point.
