I like tonight's fight, but Haymon's burned through a ton of money in unnecessary fashion. Million dollar paydays to Lara and Guerrero for BS stay busy fights in front of nobody with low tv numbers when the market value for those fights wouldn't even be an eighth of that.

All the while Haymon's lining his own pockets with his 20% fee. I hope he pulls his head out of his ass and starts running things more intelligently and stops acting like this is a frivolous money grab.
Kevin Iole wrote what is basically a forum post.

I mean really...all he gets is a "no comment" and a nearly two week-old report from the Wall Street Journal.

    • One thing that came into my mind. We can criticize Haymon because he puts plenty of mismatches on the cards but if you think about a little but even the most deepest weight classes like welter are not deep enough to put out quality fights all the time year-to-year. And add the cold war. Now you can understand why they don't put just quality fights over and over again. They would be expire in a year or two ans after that there would be nothing but mediocre fihters and bums for the top guys or maybe sometimes a few up and coming prospects but not near enough to generate another 5-10 qualit fights.

I agree you can't have guys fight top comp fight after fight, you need to have build up fights in between. But the issue of overspending on these cards is really irresponsible.

The other major issue I have is the time and location these cards are being put on. There's so much missed opportunity.
        • Going back to the May/Pac card. Spence should've been the co-main with a decent opponent instead of Cruz with a nobody.
        • They should've had another top prospect headline with the replay.
        • DeGale/Dirrell should've been in Detroit, not Boston on a Saturday afternoon on a holiday.
        • Lara in Miami or Houston, not Chicago.
        • Guerrero's fight should've been at night not the morning.
        • They should admit their mistake and start using smaller arenas to create more buzz during the events.
        • Broner/Porter would've been electric in Cincinnati.

Little things like that plant the seed so this can grow. But they're showing no recognition for their mistakes. Like they're content to keep using seat filler companies and expecting this thing to suddenly take off. It's foolish and maddening to watch. This was supposed to be innovative and return boxing to it's old ways and away from the short-sighted greedy promoters.

They did good with Wilder in Alabama, that's the kinda thing they need to do with all their fights. Put them in a location and time where they'll get the most juice. You can get away with mismatches by doing that, and then save your big pay days for the super fights. It'll keep the fighters hungry for those kinda fights.

Why would Haymon try and make this successful when he could basically robb 20% of 475million from a hedge fund?

He is going to continue overpaying everyone in order to enrich himself. His break with beyonce and jayz was over embezzling money. Looks like uncle Al is at it again.

Will for one, he might only get 20% of $200mill if his funding drys up after two years. The other thing is, if he managed to build the PBC into something truly successful, he could sell it off at multi-billion dollar profit (split with his investors of course).

Haymon has never made a career out of doing good business. He has made a money out of extorting other businesses for money.

He is gonna end this venture with more money than he could ever hope to spend in the obscurity he loves.

People not doing shady business dont hide out like he does either.

Still not a bad profit for Haymon. Even if PBC was to fold tomorrow, he has already made out like a bandit.

As for spinning PBC into a multi billion dollar enterprise... that is way out of the realm of possibility for a boxing league of any kind. It simply is not that kind of sport, there are not enough stars to support the fan base a sport requires to be profitable on that level and there are no teams or local en****** for fans to cheer for and support. I don't know how Haymon managed to convince that group to invest the kind of money they did, but I think someone or a few someones, will be losing their jobs and their reputation in the investment world before this is over with.

Fact TV pays through the nose for all kinds of sports.
                  Fact boxing draws an audience.
Fact boxing has been under exposed for decades
Fact boxers have often been some of the biggest sports stars
Fact individual sports are also desired for TV
Fact people will cheer for what they like, they don't need local teams

All you speak in is ifs, maybes and what you think without any knowledge on the topic. You lack any sort of vision to see how it can work, Which makes you a naysayer, n successful person has ever listened to a naysayer~

Some people don't seek the limelight, it has nothing to do with that.

Haymon is greedy, but greed is good because it always leads to wanting more. He would not be satisfied with a simple con game when there is more to be gained. Greedy people don't settle they want it all and there is never enough.
