Fighters accepting the fact that they cant continue fighting - a cowardly move?

It depends, obviously. When Cotto didn't continue against Margarito, that was highly, highly understandable. I've never blamed him. He gave everything he had. Continuing that fight accomplishes nothing but hurting him even more.
I don't think Geale gave everything he had. Maybe he was drained, but he could still fight. So yeah, I'd say he just quit.

nobody who gets in the ring is a coward and anyone who gets in the ring with the likes of cotto and GGG certainly has some balls on em'.
that said geale did put up a pathetic performance. monroe gave all he had, realized it want enough and called it a day preserving himself for future battles.
geale got hurt and quit, twice. pretty much all great fighters got off the canvas to win, its an ability you need in the fight game. monroe got off the canvas and fought until he had nothing left, geale didnt do that. he was afraid of being knocked out cold and ending up a highlight real KO victim imo and quit with plenty left to give.
i still would never call him a coward, but i dont think you can call him world class after witnessing this not once but twice.

You can't see through his eyes, feel if his legs are under him, know if he has concussion symptoms, etc.
He just got blasted with a clean left hook and dropped again with a temple shot. It just wasn't his night.Originally posted by ray* View Postsome fighters know their limits, they know when they are done. I would never call "coward" or "quitter" a boxer and truthfully, I don't get it. I mean the guys step into a ring knowing that they're gonna get punched hard and that's those punches are gonna hurt them potentially very very bad, how could someone call these guys cowards or else.
I've sparred a few times with 18oz and get hit with a few good punches and it wasn't the most pleasant moment of my life, so without gear and with 8-10oz gloves, no thanks.
Bottom line for me, Hat's off to all the fighters stepping up inside a ring or cage or whatever (without exceptions).Last edited by hayazaki; 06-09-2015, 11:20 AM.

You should never call a pro fighter a coward imo.
They have made a profession out of fighting which is something very few men actually do.
It takes great courage to make a living out of the fight game, some people on nsb dont quiet understand what it really takes to actually do it for real.
One poster went on a bit of a tirade about geale saying he has no balls but he has probably never put on a pair of boxing gloves in his life.
Its easy to sit back in your chair and be critical of these guys but some people dont know what fighters have to go through to fight at the highest level.
