So before the Maidana fights what would your reasoning be?

Maidana being mentioned shows how Floyd is a victim of 'active fighter syndrome' in these fantasy matchups with retired greats.

Lets put it this way, 5-10 years after Mayweather retires no one is going to say '2014 Mayweather vs 1980 Roberto Duran' they would probably say 2007 Mayweather at 147 lbs.

As many posters have said, Duran was able to fight a bigger fighter than Floyd in Sugar Ray leanard. But many think of Duran's best work as a lightweight and ditto for Floyd? Its a great match at this weight. I wouldn't want to bet the house on that fight! Duran did manage to beat Leanard, a fighter who imo was more dangerous than Floyd. But triangle theory can be a cop out and prime Floyd at his sweet weight was an incredible fighter. Floyd did get chopped a few times by Castillo and Corley, he would have a lot more on his plate against hands of stone. Duran could be outfoxed on occasion by a real good technician...its a toss up imo.

Duran is a hall of famer lightweight. Most of his career was at 135. Let Floyd go up two weight classes and fight GGG and see how good he is.

I like Duran to win but Mayweather is very hard to beat. Duran has the perfect style for Mayweather. He was fast and he hit hard with both hands and he was also a skilled boxer. Duran was like Maidana only so much better. He was a relentless attacker throwing lots of hard fast punches from all angles. I don't think Mayweather could reduce Duran's punch output that much. As for Mayweather's pot shots with the straight right, Duran had a straight right just as fast and accurate as Mayweather's with lots more power. Prime against prime I think Duran wins a close one on points. Both men have great chins so I don't think a KO is likely.

I cant believe so many think Floyd could win ? duran would eat him up leonard possessed a far better offense and heart than Floyd ever has ,duran would make floyd run and clinch for his life duran would force a torred pace as per the 1st leonard fight duran punched harder was underrated defensively could fight at distance or fight in close, duran would work him over and make him either quit or get koed.

truth is its a 50/50 fight. Whoever night it is that night is gonna win. Duran is better then Castillo and Maidana who arguably beat Mayweather the first time around.

Floyd came all the way up from 130 to 154 and won titles in both weight classes and the weight classes in between, Duran moved up from 135 to 160 and did the same, no difference to me, Floyd moved up 24 pounds and Duran moved up 25.

Or he could get outboxed, embarrassed and say no mas after 8 rounds. Once Leonard started moving and fighting a smart fight Duran saw no way to beat him, and Floyd's foot movement, defense and counterpunching is much better than Leonard, Leonard tried to use offense and heart in the first fight and he lost cuz he played Duran's dame, Floyd won't do that.
