Stevenson can fight Kovalev on HBO right now if he wants to.

Duva made that clear when she withdrew from the purse bid.

Bruh it is. I'd rather he fight two times a year vs strong or good opposition l. Than fight 4 easy fights like ggg

How about vs Bika, Fonfara and Sukhotsky?

Busy fighting whom? Looking at the Lt. Heavyweight division his pickings are slim. Chilemba & Braehmer are the only two decent opponents he hasn't beaten or aren't signed with Haymon. If he beats Mohammedi then Beterbiev becomes his IBF mandatory and he's with Yvon Michael & Haymon. Is ME gonna pay him step aside money and if they do will Beterbiev accept? Kathy's insistence that Kova only fights on HBO is gonna create a purse bid and Kova is gonna be forced to vacate because ME won't participate

I said this before and Duva pretty much summed it up as well, Kovalev and his team took the security and the structure of HBO over a one shot type of deal with Stevenson and Haymon. This move is great for Kovalev and not so great for Stevenson. For two reasons

            1. Kovalev will have better opponents lined up in the future. Keep in mind he can still fight Stevenson, if he chooses to fight on HBO, if not, Kovalev can fight Beterbiev. Beterbiev can work his way into the IBF no.1 mandatory spot and fight Kovalev on HBO. We all know GYM will never put Beterbiev and Stevenson in the same ring. Beterbiev will certainly have to fight Kovalev on HBO, which I'm sure GYM has no problem with.

Kovalev can also fight Andre Ward for a big fight in the future. Then of course there are guys like Braehmer that he can fight in Europe. Duva said they are planning to have fights in Europe So that works for him.

Now you look at Stevenson and who's he going to fight? The winner of Rodriguez-Baker or a rematch with Fonfara... Doesn't sound all that great. His options are more limited than Kovalev's.

            2. The age factor. Stevenson is turning 38 years old... can he survive by the end of the year, or further? He might get dethroned soon and the winner could end up fighting Kovalev in 2016 on HBO for all the belts.

Of course Kovalev could also get dethroned, but Stevenson is 6 years older how much longer does he have? Is he going to be around for 2 more years to unify the belts?

How is Kov running scared with this deal? Does the guy not deserve to be financially secure? Do you doubters actually think, that if HBO and Showtime and Floydie and Pac and Arum can agree on a huge deal... that HBO can't work with Haymon for a Kov/******man fight? You must be delusional or something. This thing CAN happen. And I'm sure it will within the next couple years.

I can't even think of 4 decent and drama-free opponents for Kov at LHW.

exactly he going have to give up ibf belt because ME not winning a purse bid if it comes to that for beterbiev exclusive network deals are killing fights and no one calling HBO out on they bs of banning haymon boxers because Floyd jump ship to sho for that deal

Pretty sure Beterbiev will fight Kovalev on HBO... I'm pretty sure GYM wouldn't care either. They care with Stevenson because he is a bigger attraction and has a belt so they want to maximize their earnings in that bout. Beterbiev is a dangerous fighter with no belt or big following. You can throw those guys out like drones and hope they hit the target.

Kovalev will have to vacate some of those belts eventually. Beterbiev will be his IBF mandatory and Fonfara will be his WBA mandatory and it will go to a Purse bid. At least we can get Stevenson vs. Beterbiev down the road. Or Setvenson vs. Fonfara 2 or even Beterbiev vs. Fonfara for the 2 titles and then the winner faces Stevenson.
Stevenson can take care of his mandatory Chilemba in the mean time, or a name like Bute.

Kovalev is running out of options.
