So basically Golovkin is never going to get his fair shot at the title. The once proud green belt has lost nearly all of its value.

Mauricio Sulaiman, World Boxing Council President, confirms that Miguel Cotto must face Gennady Golovkin in an obligatory defence.

Kazakh “GGG” defeated Britain's Martin Murray, last weekend, successfully defending his WBC interim middleweight championship. Cotto is the absolute Champion of the division, while Genaddy is the official challenger.

However, the Champion has a voluntary defence. If he wins he must fight Golovkin.

“ Miguel Cotto will have a voluntary defense. He will choose his rival. But the winner will have to face Golovkin” Mauricio stressed.

Possible opponents for Cotto are Timothy Bradley and Erislandy Lara. The fight Is scheduled for June at a venue to be determined.
Bro I told you. Wbc is the most curupt organization and im a mexican . Everyone knew that cotto would get to sidestep gg for canelo. Cotto v canelo is going to generate alot of money
Remember the wbc let canelo fight Mathew Hatton for the wbc title! They love him

Cottos not gonna fight either, imo he finishes his career without facing another top guy. He shouldnt have to fight top guys if he doesnt want to. Just let him fight weakass comp for his last fights. WBC wont mind as long as they get paid Cotto gets to be the "champ"

Can somebody tell me why the hell canelo gets a shot at the wbc middleweight belt before golovkin,if golovkin had been the mandatory since he crushed rubio? I wouldn't be surprised if canelo beats cotto, and the wbc let canelo defend it against mayweather on may 7th 2016. Forget rankings and mandatories, the only thing the wbc sees is $$$$$

I love how the WBC keeps moving the goal posts for their 160-pound championship. First they said that the Cotto/Alvarez winner must face Golovkin. When Cotto/Alavarez wasn't made, they said Cotto had to face Golovkin after his next defense against Geale. Now, because they want to collect a large sanctioning fee, they are saying that they will allow Cotto to fight Geale and Alvarez, but the winner of Cotto/Alvarez must fight GGG.

If Cotto/Alvarez decided to fight a rematch or if the winner decided to s to face Mayweather afterwards, I am sure the WBC would make a third and/or fourth exception. In the meantime, GGG can fight for the "WBC super interim championship" against the winner of the 2015 Boxcino tournament with the promise that he will get the Cotto/Alvarez/Mayweather winner next,

Money! Money! Money! The WBC would collect a bigger sanctioning fee from a Cotto/Alvarez I and II fight and a Cotto/Alvarez winner vs Mayweather fight than they would in any fight involving GGG. The WBC cares about as much about GGG and his right to fight for their championship belt as the average ********** cares about *****care!

He could only do that if the sanctioning body is willing to enforce his mandatory shot. The WBC cares much more about the sanctioning fee they would get from a Cotto/Alvarez fight than they do about GGG.
