If Golovkin's people can wrangle a cast-iron guarantee from both boxers, a contract to fight the victor, for stepping aside it might work out better than relying on the honour of the WBC.

Should GGG refuse to step aside the chances are the WBC sanctions Alvarez/Cotto anyway and as long the sanction fees keep coming in they'll be in no hurray to enforce Golovkin's mandatory shot.

In an ideal world we would not even be discussing this. This shouldn't happen but as awful as it is maybe Golovkin will be better served trading his chance at Cotto entirely at the whim of the WBC for a guaranteed shot at the victor of Alvarez/Cotto. It's shameful but that's what it is.
Cotto has refused giving such a guarantee which is why GGG has so far refused any step aside offer. Without a signed, notarized guarantee, nothing anyone says can be trusted. Cotto is a coward who will move to the other side of the planet to avoid fighting GGG. He will retire from the sport if he has to. He is not a champion, he is a whore fighting for money only.

If the fans would stop watching and paying, this crap would end. Force the big fights to happen by sticking together. If fans demanded the fight and refused anything else, They would force the issue.

IT's not only fighters who can use social media, you know? As soon as I read this thread I went on Twitter and tweeted at both the WBC and Tom Loeffler asking what this BS was all about and saying that it is crap. I made my feelings known directly. Will I get an answer? Who knows? Probably not, but if enough people make their discontent known, maybe it will get a response of some kind.

I've also sent email to WBC asking for clarification. If I ever get an answer, I will post it here.

Canelo, however has so far proven he's willing to step up. He may do so again.

It's obvious to all those willing to see it that Cotto isn't going to fight GGG. Were I in Cotto's position I'd do the exact same thing whether I get called a coward or not. Honour and bravery don't pay the bills. Given the choice between losing to Canelo and losing to GGG I'd go with the one that pays better.

Honestly, I don't think GGG's team cares if they fight Cotto. They want that lineal belt and, if they can get it, a name for his resume. Alvarez will do if Golovkin can beat him.

Oscar has already said that Canelo will not be fighting GGG anytime in the near future, more like two years from now. So it would only switch from a Puerto Rican ducking GGG to a Mexican ducking him. It is starting to seem like the only fighters with balls in the sport today are from Eastern Europe.

Perhaps I am being niave. Sometimes I forget that the best thing you can hope for in boxing is that the shadyness and the politics remain outside the ring, not in it.

If that was true, GGG would be facing Cotto tonight instead of Monroe. Boxing used to be a sport of champions, now it has become a sport of businessmen. No honor, no valor, only the mighty dollar is important.

Wait a minute, didn't this same prick say earlier this year Cotto get's one voluntary defense and then has to fight Golovkin? So now pretty much what he's saying is the year Cotto's held on to that belt doesn't count, this defense is a freebie, then somehow Canelo gets a shot before the guy who has been destroying the division single handedly. Golovkin was going to be Sergio's mandatory too. WTF WBC...
