I still have my doubts that Mayweather even fights in September. He might decide do take a vacation till next year when Pac is healthy and he makes a rematch. You never know with Floyd. I don't think negotiations should be made based on Floyd's thinking.

It could be in Vegas, Texas or NYC. I just believe that the money to be made for both Cotto and Canelo would be in Vegas and Texas. (not to mention no state taxes) If Cotto agrees to come to Texas he should get the lions share, should be allowed to pick the judges. He will probably chose the catchweight as well.
Cotto vs. Canelo, if it happens which will be good fortune, won't happen in September. That's way too early. And if you don't believe it, time will prove it to you. It's pretty much a fact that it's not happening in September. If it happens, which will be good fortune, it'll be more like December.

If the fight happens also, good luck on it being in Texas. Vegas is even going to be a tough sell, Team Cotto will want more money or will outright reject it. And taxes don't mean anything because venues like the Barclay's will be willing to outbid other competitors to make up the difference. Look for Roc Nation/Team Cotto to fight hard for the Barclay's.

Lots of nut hugging in this thread. Rarely do you see boxing fans. It's just boxer fans in the majority of threads like this one.

Really? Loeffler said that they were ready to accept any terms Cotto wanted to offer for a GGG fight and Cotto went radio silent and dug a hole and pulled the dirt in after himself. I actually found a medieval song about one of his ancestors, Sir Robin, and changed the lyrics to fit...

        "Brave Sir Cotto ran away.

        Bravely ran away away.

When danger reared it's ugly head,
He bravely turned his tail and fled.

Yes, brave Sir Cotto turned about

        And gallantly he chickened out.

        ****Bravely**** taking to his feet,
He beat a very brave retreat.

Bravest of the braaaave, Sir Cotto!"

I guess he could fight GGG, but why take on just as dangerous a fight (if not more) against GGG for half the money that a Canelo bout would bring?

Cotto vs Canelo at Cowboys Stadium September 12th has a good ring too it.
Cotto picks the judges and gets a 55/45 split for agreeing to fight on Canelo's date and turf. The fight will put 60,000 fans in the stans, and sell about 1 million PPV's.
That's exactly how I envision it but Kneegay Jotto do not want to fight the Ginger 3 years avoiding him tells you the whole story behind the diva posture Kneegay Jotto

Thing is there is always 2 side of the story and clearly Cotto was not happy with the terms.

            But having said that!!!

Cotto was also waiting for Mayweather to decide. If Canelo would have wait a bit longer he would end up Fighting Cotto in June because clearly May was still too close to the Pac - May fight.

So Cotto was not happy being able to set whatever terms he wanted? So unhappy that he never even bothered to respond and never even sent over a proposal? OK, so that means Cotto is just a complete idiot and his promoter DKSAB.

As for the Mayweather fable, there was never the slightest indication that Mayweather was considering Cotto as an opponent. It was never mentioned by Floyd or his people, nor by anyone else in the know. It was only a steaming load of merde invented by Cotto's fans on message boards.

And yes, May 9th, the week after the May-Pac fight clearly was too close. Because the Canelo-Kirkland fight only managed to get the best ratings for HBO since 2006. It would have been much better to wait a month and let the atmosphere cool down to nothing. So much for that genius argument.

Cotto must first overcome Daniel Geale (31-3, 16KOs) on June 6th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Canelo did has part last Saturday night, when he knocked out James Kirkland in the third round.

There have been attempts to make this fight in the past without success. This time the situation is different and there seems to be motivation on both sides to get a deal done.

I've been waiting for this fight.

                Good news !

                I wonder what weight.

                I'm guessing a catchweight, most likely 156-158.

I like both fighters, but have been riding with Cotto a lot longer than Canelo.

Cotto should insist on 160, this should be a genuine defence.

LOL, so basically Cotto is prepared to walk away again. Not surprised after what Canelo did to Kirkland.
