Cotto can be stripped of the belt, it isn't going to make a difference whether I watch Cotto/Canelo because it is or isn't on the line. Really, that goes for any boxer that's been around a while. Floyd/Manny no title? Who cares, I'd watch anyway. Titles only matter for young fighters and when making a fight against someone with no name. Names are bigger than titles in boxing, just the state of the game.

Take the step aside money anyway GGG, at least you'll get paid twice that way. It's better than the WBC just changing the rules at will like they always do.

I know this is boxing, but Golovkin should take a stance here and reject the step-aside deal. If he accepts it I think his position is undermined somewhat. He becomes a party to the farce that is Cotto's reign as the middleweight champion.

GGG's team will comply. Who wouldn't? GGG gets money, and he's still the mandatory for who ever wins the fight. They're both good money fights, whether it's Canelo or Cotto.

Worst case scenario the winner vacates and GGG becomes THE Mw champion and that's what people are asking cotto to do if he's not willing to fight. Outcomes don't change.

Hopefully they turn down the money. If Canelo wins he is probably going to face GGG eventually as both are with HBO (ruling out Haymon opponents like Quillin, Jacobs) and the biggest names at the weight. Canelo seems ballsy enough, I don't think he'd fight at 160 for long without going after the guy with 3 of the belts. If Cotto wins, he still won't fight Golovkin, regardless of the belt situation. But it would be good to have Golovkin as the WBC champ rather than have it be passed around at catchweights for the indefinite future. I have no interest in seeing the Cotto-Canelo winner face Floyd at 156lbs, and it seems less likely to happen if there is no belt on the line.

Golovkin can face anyone in the ring.

                Mandatory means nothing these days.

You mean step aside fees override mandos if a prize fighter can afford the challenger's demands.

Golovkin was Cotto's Mando after he beat Rubio for the Interim. Golovkin let Cotto fight Geale and Alvarez...K2 agreed with GBP making a WBC ''voluntary defense'' against Khan. When Golovkin was WBC Champ Heiland became the Interim champ.

Interesting how K2 are allowed to make a voluntary defense against Eubank Jr. to Brook instead of facing Sebastian Heiland, just like Alvarez vs Khan...

So K2 paid Heiland to step aside, because what money was in that...then the WBA wanted in the action to collect cash and forced GGG vs Jacobs since the WBA didn't even acknowledge the Brook fight defense.

So since Jacobs, K2 pays Heiland another step aside fee...or they say they're ''injured'' and avoid that fight again....

The Charlo just miraculously becomes the new Interim's challenger, which Heiland already had been waiting prior...

Again, Golovkin would in theory had already been undisputed had they taken the BJS fight and have something pure for themselves....

instead K2 had ditched risks for WBC mandos from the Southpaw Heiland to Charlo and take Alvarez over BJS...

point is, money talks, all the way in hoping for super fights, that's the business, and K2 as shown, plays the game too
