Comments Thread For: Roach: Floyd Hasn't Been on His Toes For Twelve in Years

Question: How much of a role will footwork and hand speed play into Pacquiao’s success?

Freddie Roach: “Footwork and speed have been two of Manny’s most important weapons in his career and will be hugely important against Floyd. Manny will need both to dictate the pace and direction of the fight. The key to winning the fight is to take Floyd out of his comfort zone and Manny can only do that by fighting his fight, not Floyd’s.

Floyd was on his toes in his last fight. Roach keeps talking about Floyd being on his toes I see Floyd coming forward and being aggressive like he did vs Corley, Judah, Sharmba, and Ortiz fights all southpaws wasn't on his toes against any of them

For about 4 rounds until they gave out and he gassed.

Floyd doesn't gas. His legs never gave out.

I completely agree with Roach here, particularly Pac's footwork and speed. Tim Bradley injured his foot/calf several times because of Pac's quickness, or foot speed. Floyd is SO mindful of getting hit that a slight movement will trigger Floyd to flinch. Just imagine Pac moving all over the ring and giving Floyd different looks and angles. How is Floyd going to react? There's a reason Pac is running the hills hard for this fight. He knows it's going to be a track meet and he needs to put the pressure on Floyd with his foot movement.

Mayweather has never been the type of fighter that moves on his toes all 12 rounds. We're not talking about Muhammad Ali.
