Let's see when Mayweather was 26yrs old with 26 fights as a pro he fought:
Diego Corrales,Angel Manfredy,Sosa,Chavez,"El Topo" Gerena,Juuko,Genero Hernandez to name a few

and I NEVER heard ANYONE use the "He's just 26" line
At 26 fights Cotto has fought Sosa, Jukko, Bazan, Rocky Martinez, Bailey,Ceballos, N'dou, Corley.... just to name a few. not bad for 26 fights. Emmanuel steward said "Cotto has the most impressive 25(now 26) fight resume that Ive seen in a long time"

you guys always make me rip on my own people, lol.
Juuko had just lost 4 out of 5 fights when Cotto faced him and it's Juuko not Jukko. Bailey had NEVER beaten anyone good, look at his record he's fought more taxi cab drivers than Chavez did growing up. We all know what happen with Corely. Nearly all those guys were above their bext fightin weight. Rocky Martinez has lost to basically everyone. Ceballos is another smaller fighter Cotto has on his resume a guy that got KO'ed in the 3rd by Randall Bailey . N'dou is one of the best guys on Cotto's resume it was a close fight but still N'dou is another smaller guy a guy that started off as a junior lightweight or maybe even a featherweight.

I think Cotto should stay at 140 for a bit. I'm sure he would do good at 147 but I don't think he should jump the gun. He should eventually get used to the motions of making 140 and just when he starts getting better at it, he should then step up to 147. The best thing for Cotto is not to step into dangerous area too early and make the same mistake so many fighters before him have made. His camp is doing an excellent job at grooming him to stay a champion. No reason to rush. By the way 26 is the new 20. Bernard Hopkins,Chuck Lidell and Randy Courtier from UFC are all over 40. They are good examples of so called "old". I myself am 26 and I make many 18 year olds look foolish in the ring. Not to brag, but I can run 10mls in 1hr, do 120push-ups in 2mnts and do 100sit-ups in 2mnts. I don't know how many 18-21 year olds can do that.

Why are people so down on Cotto's record and who he has fought? Lets look at the other fighter at his weight class, Hatton. Who has Hatton fought other than Tzu (and an old Tzu at that)? Tzu's last fight was against Mausa who had already gotten TKO'd by Cotto. Hatton's only other big name was Ben Tackie who was on the down side of his carrer and had lost 3 of his last 6 fights when he fought Hatton including a 2 fight losing streak. This from a fighter who has 40 fights. By the time Cotto reaches 40 fights he will have a much better list of fighters he has fought.

Also back to the question at hand, I think Cotto would have some more pop and better overal conditioning if he went to 147lbs in a year to year and a half. He does look dehydrated. I would hope that he fights Castillo at 140lbs then moves up to face Hatton and the rest at 147lbs.
