I hate that word, duck/coward/bum/etc, are all extremely disrespectful !That's what happens when you become the mandatory challenger, if there is no agreement between the camps they go to a purse bid.
And the promoter that offers up the highest amount of money gets to put on the fight.
Why is Duva running away from the highest amount of money? Her fighter would benefit greatly from that. I guess she's going to hide behind HBO, though.
What a shameless duck.
You dont hear fighters talking like that.
In saying that, Duva called Stevenson a duck, and she stated why.....
..... and if you consider the reasons she gave, then directly or indirectly, Kovalev is flat-out ducking Stevenson.Comment

It's a shame for this sport, because Kovalev was surfing over a surreal wave of admiration, since Stevenson signed a better deal with Showtime. But in fact, Kovalev signed his deal with HBO (AFTER) Stevenson went to Showtime, I didn't say before, I said Kovalev signed AFTER.
Lets hope Provodnikov is not ****** racist & anti-semic as Mr. withdraw Kovalev is.
And now that Haymon manage to open more options for all boxers, Kovalev re-signed another contract with HBO (AFTER) his victory over Jean Pascal, which clearly show how team Kovalev were bluffing all along about Stevenson. Kovalev is now playing the Jean Pascal game, by attempting to convince his fans that Stevenson doesn't want to fight him even when he mocks Stevenson, when in facts, he & Kathy Duva are the ones running together in the opposite direction.
I wonder what John David Jackson think about this fraud.Last edited by TheThirdEye; 04-19-2015, 06:41 PM.Comment

It really is funny how this situation has come full circle.
The only thing missing is for Stevenson to beat Kovalev, then this situation will mirror the Garcia/Matthyse situation perfectly.
I wonder when this kind of situation will next occur ?
I reckon in about 5 minutes, most likely with the next fan-favorite who turns up.
Funny shht !
What this proves, is that fighters should completely ignore " fans ".Comment

I can't believe Hopkins would say something like this. Boxing is a business and he knows it. It doesn't matter what the fans want or think, boxers should and will make decisions that are in their best interest. Hopkins has always done that. Now, he hypocritically says that Stevenson should try to satisfy the fans.
If I were Stevenson, I would only agree to fight Kovalev on HBO if HBO was offering the same type of money that Stevenson would have received in the purse bid. His promoter knows how much he was going to offer. If HBO will match that amount, then I would make the fight. If not, I would be negotiating for a Fonfara rematch in July or trying to get a fight with Froch at a 170 pound catchweight.Last edited by big_james10; 04-19-2015, 10:59 PM.Comment

No. Stevenson pulled out of fighting Kovalev last year after the terms, purse, everything, had already been agreed upon by he and his promoter. It was Stevenson's own decision to do that.I hate that word, duck/coward/bum/etc, are all extremely disrespectful !

What's happening now is totally different. Kovalev's promoter withdrew from a purse bid because she knew she had no chance of winning it. Kovalev himself didn't pull out of anything and is still willing to fight Stevenson, but he can only do it on HBO.
So Stevenson jumping to Showtime was ok, but Kovalev staying with HBO is a duck? It's a shame for this sport, because Kovalev was surfing over a surreal wave of admiration, since Stevenson signed a better deal with Showtime. Sorry bro, but a man is responsible/accountable for every word/action taken by his official representatives.
Thats how the real world works.
Duva stated that Stevenson ducked Kovalev for money, then she did the exact same thing...... she stated that Stevenson should make a decision that was admittedly not in his best financial interests just to make the fight, she then refused to do the exact same thing for Kovalev.
They dont want it anymore than Stevenson does, despite what the vocal Kovalev fanboys have been saying.Comment
