That's the thing, Stevenson doesn't have a contract with ShowTime which is why he fought on NBC this last time. However, Sergey kovalev does have a contract with HBO and cant fight on other networks, so they can't do a purse bid because if Stevensons promoter won, they would want tonput it on ShowTime and kovalev cant. Kathy diva should have thought of that before she requested this purse bid, but either way Stevenson can fight kovalev on HBO so its all on him and haymon if they want the fight or not

wrong stevenson was on cbs..which is head of showtime..he does have a show contract and espinoza ok'd it to be on cbs which will only give more attention and tell the public boxing is back on tv and its good

Unfortunately for Kovalev, his team could use a little financial 101.

But that played out to Hopkins advantage. Instead of going for the 50-50 deal against Stevenson on Showtime he jumped ship to HBO to accept Kathy Duva’s ludicrous offer at around 80-20.

Stevenson lost a truck load of money in the process and now these financial champions want to pressure GYM in yet another economic catastrophy.

I can assure you GYM will get every penny back if a deal is to be made.

And if that doesn’t please Main Events, seing that Alvarez and Beterbiev also fight for GYM I guess Kovy can continue facing bums for loose change.

First of all, Duva did not call for a purse bid, Yvon Michel did. Duva pushed to have Kovalev become the mandatory challenger and to have negotiations for the fight.

Apparently there was something in Kovalev's existing contract that was triggered by going to purse bid, Duva makes reference to this in her letter to Yvon. Apparently GYM was aware of this clause as Stevenson had it in his contract as well when it expired. Apparently is has something to do with HBO retaining rights to the fighter in the event of a purse bid within a certain length of time after the contract expires. This seems to be why GYM pushed things to a bid so fast and did not attempt to negotiate at all. They wanted to trigger this clause and they knew that Duva would have to pull out and would end up looking bad.

It seems that almost every poster here has missed that small detail in Duva's letter.
