Comments Thread For: Hopkins: Stevenson Should Face Kovalev To End Debate

When it comes to light heavyweight supremacy, it comes down to two guys - Adonis Stevenson and Sergey Kovalev. Stevenson is the lineal champion because he beat Chad Dawson, who beat Bernard Hopkins. Stevenson also holds the WBC version of the title. On the other side of the equation lies Sergey Kovalev who holds the IBF, WBA, and WBO versions of the title. Kovalev won the WBA and IBF from Bernard Hopkins last November.

Bernard Hopkins says that it’s on Stevenson to prove he’s a real champion and do what he can to make the Kovalev fight happen.

So Stevenson side says lets got to a purse bid and who ever puts up the most money gets the fight. Main Events pulls out and wants the a 50/50 split and the fight on HBO while Stevenson is signed to Showtime?

      WTF?

How about they do it on free TV on a neutral channel like NBC (Duva used to have fights on there too). The winner gets more exposure and recognized as the undisputed Champion. Stevenson is the lineal champion and that is the only title that matters. I think Fonfara beats Kovalev's last 5 opponents easy.

That's the thing, Stevenson doesn't have a contract with ShowTime which is why he fought on NBC this last time. However, Sergey kovalev does have a contract with HBO and cant fight on other networks, so they can't do a purse bid because if Stevensons promoter won, they would want tonput it on ShowTime and kovalev cant. Kathy diva should have thought of that before she requested this purse bid, but either way Stevenson can fight kovalev on HBO so its all on him and haymon if they want the fight or not

And so what kinda angle is Bernard Hopkins tryna play hear, he already knows the score, knows why the fight didn't happen, everybody does even the fans know.

And although I agree with Hopkins assessment Kovalev is the real lineal champ, all that other stuff he said was "Golden Boy affiliated politics", and it only sways the uneducated fans, everybody else knows the fight didn't happen cause Duva is looking out for Duva and Main Events and in this situation, not Kovalev's best financial interest.

Move along nothing to see hear. :ANYWORD:

Once again, Hopkins speaks the truth, and the majority who know boxing feel the same way.

Why wouldn't kovalev fighting Stevenson be in main events best interest? That is the biggest fight for kovalev at 175 and kovalev would be heavily favored

because she short changing the money kovalev could of made by stopping the purse bid to keep her ties with HBO kovalev haven't resigned with HBO yet so she could do it on any network she wants

He's trying to, Bernard. But Kovalev's team begged for a purse bid and then when they got it they ran away.
