Really looking forward to this fight. It has all the ingredients to be an explosive and successful PPV. I am glad HBO is standing by GBP and felt compelled to "force" this match up in order to Cotto to have his fight with Geale on the network.

Funny how one fight is at 157lbs and the other at 155lbs.

The WBC mandate says that the winner of Cotto/Geale must fight GGG next or be stripped of their belt. So the only way Cotto can fight Canelo this fall is if he either loses to Geale or beats him then vacates the WBC MW title.

Cotto won't fight Canelo. He will be taking it easy for the balance of his career. He beat a very damaged Sergio Martinez.

How did Canelo back out? They had a deal and all the major points were hammered out back in Nov then Cotto went MIA from his own promoter for months while trying to sign with Roc Nation. Golden Boy and Canelo is not the reason they are fighting each other next. It's 100% Cotto and his team's fault. If they told Golden Boy listen we trying to secure a deal with Roc Nation then we can fight you I'm sure Golden Boy would of been fine waiting. But when you jerk somebody around for months and give no explanation then ask for more time only a fool would agree. Cotto and his team mismanaged this entire situation and it only hurt Cotto's reputation. The Diva from day 1 has been Cotto

If Cotto knew he wasn't going to fight Canelo in May for a multiple reason that he felt benefited him I'm fine with that. My beef is just be up front and tell top rank, tell golden boy tell the the fans. Instead he let that circus go on. from the time Canelo beat Lara till what Feb 2015 everyone was trying to make this fight. Him and his manager kept releasing public statements we are trying to fight Canelo we are negotiating which was a flat out lie. We find out after Top Rank, Golden Boy, HBO had worked out all the points that Cotto and his team cut off negotiations with them some time around Dec 2014. Yet his manager putting out fake statements about negotiating this fight but both Golden Boy and Top rank say Cotto wasn't responding to their calls. We find out months later what Cotto was really doing was working on a deal with Roc Nation. If Cotto had been up front he would of saved himself all the backlash he has received. Instead he hasn't fought in a full year and looks like he ducked GGG and Canelo.

Dude, this was all about cutting Top Rank out of the deal and the Roc Nation negotiations going on behind close doors. So one it was Top Rank and Golden Boy who where pushing for and negotiating a fight Cotto did not want TR involved with and two HBO was just a bystander. And three the possibility of Cotto fighting Floyd if the Pac/Floyd fell through.

Cotto is never going to fight GGG. Hell he even recently said that no organization will force him to fight GGG and that he would give GGG (vacate) the belt if needed. HBO is probably putting something in a contract to state that Cotto has to fight Canelo next if he wins. That's the reason why they initially refused to air Cotto's next fight because they wanted assurance that he would fight Canelo. GGG is not in the equation. Even if he wins his next fight and wins against Canelo I don't see him ever fighting GGG.
