So is 155-157 like a whole new division now?
What's it called? superduperwelterweight ... or more appropriately middlepu$$yweight?

All a sudden Cotto and his team put the stall tactics. And Top Rank said Cotto and his management stopped returning phone calls and emails. Golden Boy put like 4 different deadlines and still Cotto and his team refused to respond to Golden Boy let alone his supposed promoter Top Rank. There are no reports that they were asking for more money or anything specific. There is a difference between negotiating back and forth and just flat out cutting off communication. Everyone figured Cotto was stalling to see if the Mayweather fight fell apart so he could sneak in to that fight. Finally Canelo got tired of waiting and needed to take a plan B fight. Months later we find out the entire time Cotto's management was negotiating a deal with Roc Nation. So for at least 6 months Cotto was wasting HBO, Golden Boy and Top Rank, fans time negotiating on a fight Cotto had no intentions of taking.

My only beef is Cotto and his manager were flat out lying to the media all this time stringing everyone along. And HBO clearly was frustrated by the unprofessional way he handled it because they flat out refused to air his next fight unless he agreed to fight Canelo next.
Cottos manager later stated that money was never there. Top rank was playing a game, claiming the deal was good to go while Arum was simultaneously trying to set up Cotto vs Rios, or Cotto vs Bradley. Two fighters who happen to be in house. De La Hoya was claiming all terms were agreed to in the first week of negotiations, which was a straight up lie. And the entire time Cotto and his people maintained they were not happy with the money offered for the fight.

In the end Gabby told DLH they would have an answer on his latest offer by Tuesday but DLH said he needed it by Friday or he will have to move on because Canelo is throwing a fit, The same man who was throwing chairs in the first week of negotiations because he was angry Cotto wanted more money. So there is two sides to every story if your being fair you have to include both. Were you trying to be fair?

Dont give HBO to much credit, they cant force the fight. Most likely what they are doing is making it extremely clear that if they pick up his next fight they expect a fall fight against Canelo, similar to what they did when Cotto fought Rodriguez then subsequently fought Martinez. Relationships being what they are, and the fact that Cotto clearly wants to fight Canelo, and will be getting more money with Roc Nation equals the fight happening barring something crazy interfering. I can see GGG stepping aside if he is promised the winner.

If they told Golden Boy listen we trying to secure a deal with Roc Nation then we can fight you I'm sure Golden Boy would of been fine waiting. But when you jerk somebody around for months and give no explanation then ask for more time only a fool would agree. Cotto and his team mismanaged this entire situation and it only hurt Cotto's reputation. The Diva from day 1 has been Cotto
Cotto is a boss he don't need to give nobody explanations. He did what he did and will still get the Camelot fight if he wants it. On his terms!

Golden Boy and Top Rank both have exact same version of the story. They both say they spoke early on with Cotto found out what he wanted and then Golden Boy gave him exactly what he wanted. Oscar said this from day one we agreed on everything. Top Rank said everything is done we just waiting on the green light from Cotto. We know that Cotto was set to make more money then he got from fights with Floyd, Manny and Sergio. It was a career high payday. Money was not the issue. Then all a sudden things got funny where Cotto refused to sign or agree to a fight with all the terms he initially wanted. Then his manager says they need more money. Yet to this day Golden Boy and Top Rank have no idea what the exact money is they were looking for since both sides tried to reach Cotto and his management never returned calls. Then Oscar is on record saying we gave them 4 different deadlines. At no point did Cotto's people give a counter offer they simply refused to agree.

Again big difference in we are still negotiating and one side flat out refusing to commit or return phone calls. The only side that was lying is Cotto because months later we find out this entire time they were negotiating a deal with Roc Nation. That didn't happen after the Canelo fight fell apart that was going on at the same time making Cotto and his manager liars. And clearly HBO is siding with the Golden Boy and Top Ranks version of the events otherwise they wouldn't of refused to air his next fight without assurance that he will this time follow through and fight Canelo.

When I say money wasn't the issue I mean At the end of the day Cotto is NOT getting more money from Golden Boy or HBO to fight Canelo. He was going to get a career paycheck for that fight. He went to Roc Nation to get more money from his own promoter. The Roc deal has the potential to generate more money in the long run then what he thought he could get from Top Rank long term.

GGG has already been promised the winner of Cotto - Geale. If he does not get that winner, why should he believe anything anyone promises him after that? If I was GGG and they forced me to step aside, I'd get the absolute most money possible to step aside and then after getting paid, relinquish the interim title and tell them to stuff it because I have no faith in their word.
