Comments Thread For: Chavez Jr., Top Rank Legal Dispute Has Been Resolved

As Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. faces Andrzej Fonfara on April 18th at the StubHub Center, it looks like his legal matter with his former promoter, Top Rank, has come to an end. The two sides had been locked in litigation with both of them having differing views on the length and validity of their promotional agreement.

But Top Rank's CEO Bob Arum told BoxingScene.com on Thursday - "It's been resolved to everyone's satisfaction and we're very satisfied with the resolution because it came out pretty good."

The veteran promoter would not disclose the details but industry sources believe that Top Rank received a seven-figure settlement.

I just thinks it's funny he wouldn't sign an extension with Top Rank, but he signed a lifetime contract with Haymon... I still want to see Chavez vs GGG.

I wanted to see GGG vs Chavez too...but only because it would have propelled GGG to superstardom faster. However, the reality is that GGG would have destroyed Chavez and definitely sent him to the hospital. I would've loved if top rank paid whatever chavez wanted for that one GGG fight so they could send him off with a brutal beating, but Chavez was probably never even serious about taking the fight.

Haymon must have some deep pockets he keeps getting sued by other promoters and then forced to pay to make the lawsuit go away. The next one will be Amir Khan.

Now the long list of how Chavez was never meant to be anything by Arum over the next 3 years.

That tells you that unless you are a fighter named Pacquiao, it is not worth getting into contract with Top Rank.

To Haymon, these legal settlements are part of the investment in getting top name fighters. They may not be great fighters, but they have a brand name.

After reading a the court documents, I thought Chavez Jr had a pretty solid case. I'm surprised Haymon gave in if true.

The cherry on top for Bob will be when Fonfara batters Chavez.

Never won a big fight. Won 1 round of the biggest fight he was ever in.
What is the appeal of this garbage can, other than his last name?
