I get that this is a tuneup, but Ward better hit the ground running and fight again soon against someone good. Too much time wasted.

Oooh, now I remember Marco Antonio Periban. He's not good, but he's not THAT terrible. Probably top 11-20 at super middleweight. That Bika fight was a coin flip type of fight, and he could have easily been a title holder with different judges. And that Badou Jack fight was a robbery.

        It's an okay tuneup fight.

The fight's in Ward's hometown, the crooked California Boxing Commission officials will be there to help him if needed.

I wonder if Jack Reiss will be working the fight, or will they decide he's not needed because Periban isn't dangerous enough?

          No.

More recently, Periban was easily beaten by James DeGale.

He has ONE win in his past FIVE fights, and that win was against a very low-level journeyman with many losses.

He should fight Rogelio Medina instead. The guy who stopped Love.

Periban just lost to J'Leon Love and got stopped by DeGale.

Not a bad opponent I guess. Considering his fight against degale was stopped prematurely

Clinching and holding is not enforced anywhere. It has absolutely nothing to do with California being crooked. It's a wider problem that stretches the entire globe.

Getting beaten by an olympic gold medalist is not some shocking surprise.

As I explained, two of 2 of those fights that he didn't win could easily be seen as wins. He's fought on par with Sakio Bika, who's a top 10 type of fighter at 168.

I said it's an okay tuneup fight. Not an okay fight in general. It's not a premium cable. It's on a "free" cable channel. There's absolutely nothing to complain about.

I understand he needs a tune up but Periban is very poor, fat & undedicated. The guy didn't even appear to train for his last fight let alone attempt to make weight where he went on to get stopped in 3 lop sided rounds against James DeGale who is not a big puncher or a fast starter by any means.
That was a world title eliminator and frankly it was disgusting and total disrespect to everybody involved especially the paying customer.
Why is this lazy oaf getting rewarded? This is what is wrong with boxing!
He didn't even train, show heart or even try to win his last fight. Hes lost about 5 in a row and getting a shot at a top 3 p4p fighter?

Absolute joke of a fight. Periban is not even a gatekeeper at this stage!
