As I said about the "Cotto situation": Stevenson may scrap his WBC belt anytime for whatever reason... The pimp will still hold the Ring "lineal" belt and he may fight in Haymon's PBC until the end of time as "lineal world champ"...

As with Cotto, if Stevenson vacates or is stripped by the WBC for ducking his mandatory, the Ring will strip him of their title too.

No doubt he would still call himself "lineal champ" if that happened. But as the Ring title and the lineal title are the same thing nowadays, it would be a hollow claim.

I live in Montreal and don't know anyone who is a Stevenson fan.

I love this line from the official WBC press release:

"These are very exiting times for boxing. The WBC is very happy to be part of them, and is committed to continue this path."

This indicates to me that they will definitely follow through with Cotto having to make his mandatory defense after his next fight.
