A huge reason they wanted Pascal was to become mandatory for Stevenson's belt. You can jack off to the thought of going on a "see, Haymon wants it!" crusade all you want, but Kovalev's side forced this. Stevenson has done nothing but run from it.

It was Stevensons team that went to the WBC to order the purse bid. So why would he vacate?

It will be interesting to see whether Haymon and Stevenson accept this fight. The only reason that Stevenson is considered relevant and fans have a desire to see him fight is because he has a championship belt and we wanted to see him fight Kovalev.

If Stevenson decides to go the route of Peter Quillin and vacate his championship to avoid a fight with Kovalev, he will end up fighting the rest of his career on PBC undercards. just like Quillin (who, incidentally, is irrelevant with or without a championship belt).

It was Stevenson's promoter who did that. We don't know why the promoter did that because they could have made a Kovalev fight without the WBC ordering it. Maybe he wanted to defy Al Haymon and show that he is in charge of Stevenson's career.

We don't know if the WBC ordered the fight as a result of Stevenson's promoter requesting it or if the WBC is simply trying to capitalize on a money-making opportunity. Regardless, Haymon could still squash the fight .if he doesn't want it to happen and overpay Stevenson for the rest of his career while Stevenson fights on PBC undercards.

It makes you wonder why they didn't order Mayweather to fight Pacquiao years ago.

I guess Chickenson will lose to Bika now

They went to the WBC because when they win the purse bid the split is already negotiated. And Stevenson can get the 50/50 split he frankly doesn't deserve. It's a brilliant strategy.
The real question is will Kovalev take a 50/50 split? What if he says you know this isn't last year. I feel I'm the bigger star now and I want more than a 50/50 split and decides to vacate his title shot. Is everybody going to call Kovalev a duck?

As much as I hate Stevenson, 50/50 is fair. And there's ZERO chance Kovalev walks from a 50/50 split, you must be confusing him with Stevenson who walked from a Pascal fight who offered him a 50/50 split, which Stevenson did not even deserve.

Kovalev is the guy who took something like 20/80 split against freaking Bernard Hopkins.

I can guarantee you Duva will play hardball and generate two dozen "Kovalev is a duck" threads. But ultimately Kovalev is the mandatory and will never give up that spot. So the fight will get made unless Stevenson vacates.
