I don't think we will ever see a prime top class boxer fighting in the UFC. Dana White would never allow that to happen, as the boxer might win and tarnish Dana's brand.

When Tyson Fury was sounding off about wanting to fight Cain Velasquez, Dana's response was, "If you want to fight the UFC champ, join the UFC and work your way up, you have to earn your shot."

But one throw away remark by Laila, which wasn't even a challenge, and he's offering her a shot at Rousey straight away!

See the difference? Fury is a world class boxer in his prime, so he can forget about it. Laila is in her 40's and hasn't fought in over a decade. That's the kind of boxer Dana likes.
wrong!! in mma, there is so much options for one to end the fight that it'll be impossible for a boxer to learn all those moves. kicking, choking, take downs, etc. remember striking is not something new to mma guys. of course their boxing is nowhere near an elite boxer but a boxer has never kick, take down, choke any of his opponents in the ring before so this will be something new for them.

A top boxer doesn't need to learn all those moves to take an opponent out.

All he needs is one clean punch on target and it's lights out, especially with those light-weight MMA gloves that have hardly any padding at all over the knuckles.

The boxer would definitely have a punchers chance of winning an MMA fight. But even an elite level MMA fighter would still be like a raw novice against an elite level boxer in a boxing match, with zero chance of winning.

The way women fight when it's no rules - scratching, biting, latching on to the opponent's hair, etc, I think Laila's sheer size and weight would give her the advantage over Rousey on the street, where Rousey's judo and BJJ wouldn't be much use to her at all.

The reason is that it is usually the boxer who starts shooting off their mouth in the first place, claiming that they could beat XXX fighter anytime, anywhere. Then if they do actually give it a try, like James Toney did against 47 yr old Randy Couture, they get their head handed to them in the octagon. This is followed by the usual "but if it was a boxing match, the boxer would have won"

Well that should be obvious to everyone from the get go. But when the boxer shot off their mouth, no one was talking about boxing. And in this case, neither was Laila when she opened her mouth.

James Toney is a couple of years younger than Couture, but completely shot as a fighter of any kind because of all the head punches he took during his career. That's the only reason Dana White was interested in him.

Contrast that with his reaction when Tyson Fury asked for a fight with Cain Velasquez - "If you want to fight Cain join the UFC and beat some contenders first."
