Apparently HBO won't host Cotto's next fight unless Canelo is guaranteed next.

They could have had 11 deadlines, Cotto wasn't taking that fight. His own manager stated that Cotto wasn't happy with the financial terms for the fight despite Cotto being offered $10.5mil.
Cotto's problem is that he thinks he's a MUCH bigger star than Canelo when in reality he's not. Remember, A-side is the one who generates the $$$. Does Cotto generate more than Canelo at this point in their careers? I don't think he does. Both have similar ppv #'s when they are the a-side and Canelo outsold Cotto by 1mil ppv buys when they both fought Floyd.Comment

My point seems to be missed.
The gesture/stetment on HBO's part helps Canelo get what he wanted-a fight with Cotto not in MSG. If cotto leaves, fine. Its just the lengths HBO went to for Canelo and not GGG.
If I'm GGG, it would've been nice to see HBO make this gesture on my behalf as it gets GGG a high profile ppv fight for the MW title.
I doubt cotto changes his stance and says that Bojangles. It's also hard to think HBO would then choose a smaller money fight.Comment

A Cotto-Canelo fight would outsell anything that's not Floyd-PAC.
Cotto-Canelo is a 1 million+ PPV fightComment

Just to add...
If Floyd-Cotto was made and Floyd-PAC fell through,...there would've been a HUGE backlash against Floyd and that would have definitely affected the PPV.
So definitely Cotto-Canelo would have outsold Floyd-Cotto.Comment

I'd say 650-750k, which is tremendous.
There may have been fallout from no Floyd/Manny. But if the ppv drop off was 50% that's still 750k. I doubt it would have been that much of a drop.Comment

Please HBO... you guys aren't the boss anymore, seriously. You're telling me if Cotto fights TBA in June and then negotiations for a Canelo match get done HBO isn't going to do it because he didn't fight on HBO in June? Please, another bluff that Cotto will wipe his ass with like he always does.Comment

LOL, no chance. You can pretend that's true if you want, but Mayweather/Cotto 2 would have easily sold more than Cotto/Alvarez.Comment

Totally disagree. I get the Mexican v PR rivalry and these are the 3rd and 4th most popular fighters. Cotto/Sergio was a huge disappointment according to Arum. They expected cotto to do more with this fight. Look at Canelo's numbers since the Floyd fight. His terrible performance has not engaged many casual fans.

In fact, the purse guarantee may be the difference here. There was a good chance Cotto-Canelo and Floyd-Cotto would have pulled similar numbers.
Floyd-Cotto would not have pulled any higher than Floyd-Maidana's 800k-900k especially if there was some backlash.Comment
