Apparently HBO won't host Cotto's next fight unless Canelo is guaranteed next.

HBO is starting to get a little picky with these fights now... It was ok when the Haymon guys werent matching people up well but it seems like that has started to change with PBC. I get that HBO just wants some good match ups too but they need to get their stars some dates. Canelo,Cotto,Ward,... Get these guys in the ring cut the ****.
And don't even get me started on them not letting rigo fight.

When you're a network investing millions of dollars into these cards, then its much more than just about getting their stars some dates. They want to give them dates against quality opposition that will in return do solid numbers.

I have no sympathy for Ward. He sidelined himself with his silly legal issues. Now he wants a comeback fight against some no namer. That's fine but its not an HBO quality fight.

I see HBO trying to transition to the gold standard of boxing.

Cotto and Ward have had a combined total of 3 fights since 2012.

They don't seem to be in any rush...so I don't see why HBO should be.

Cotto/Kirkland will do solid numbers. Its a guaranteed action packed fight and Canelo's fanbase will tune in by the masses.

I can guarantee you that Canelo/Kirkland will generate more viewership and $ than Cotto/Bundrage.

Or GGG Monroe? HBO is doing the best it can to space out fights so they can compete.

They can keep making GGG v lesser opposition because fans are tuning in. They can do same with Canelo.

Gold standard would be finding any legal way possible to make GGG v ward, canelo or Cotto.

Well with Cotto I get it ... He's looking to wrap things up pretty soon and fights when the best opportunity presents itself he's put the work in that allows him the freedom to do that now good for him... With Ward it's just ... Ugh...
