Loeffler said he'd be happy for GGG to face Lara next.

I want to hear if they actually pursued that fight and why it didn't happen. Also why not see if Hopkins was up for it?

Outside of that, there wasn't really much else so this always seemed destined to be a **** fight.

Cowardly Cotto and Quillen decided to take the Stevenson route leaving GGG with no potentially competitive or lucrative dance partners.
Let's not even talk about the less than daring Alvarez.
At least Monroe, Jr. has the guts to face GGG.

this fight sucks balls. Honestly hate the way K2 has managed GGG so far and thumbs down to HBO co-signing this doo-doo

I love K2 reasoning this , hes been on espn 4 times and he's slick and a W over Vera. Yup sounds like he deserves to fight the best MW in the world

So what are the odds going to be 60-1 80-1 , but it's a good fight though.

And what are the options? Lara will not fight on HBO, not a damn chance. Haymon would never permit it, especially now with him doing everything possible to promote his own alternative on NBC and elsewhere. GGG said he would go to 154 for a PPV fight, Lara is NOT a PPV fight.

Oscar will not put Canelo in the ring against GGG at this time. ODLH is planning a big future for Canelo and does not want to see it derailed this early. GGG would ruin his future. Canelo will stick to catch weights until GGG has moved to 168.

As for fighting at 168, GGG will do it for a PPV fight only. Hopkins is not PPV, Ward is not PPV. Froch is not PPV in the US. Only Chavez Jr. would be PPV and he is not available until 2016 at the earliest if ever at all. JCC is now fighting at LHW weights and may never return to 168. He is also with Haymon making that a very difficult fight to pull off.

So I guess that to make people happy, Golovkin should simply not fight anyone until someone worthy steps up. Might as well retire then because the sport seems to be filled with nothing but cowards at the moment.

Chavez Jr put forward the idea of fighting Hopkins on the undercard of Chavez vs Froch which would be PPV.

I wonder if K2 ever considered that possibility. They seem to have rushed into making this fight without considering certain options.

Hopkins called out ggg...Chaves ducked ggg. Froch ducked ggg

Also, Hopkins is not an undercard fighter

Froch the fraud should retire. He is now gonna be beltless

What options? Chavez vs Froch is not signed and probably won't happen until late 2015 or early 2016. Hardly an option as GGG will have had two or three more fights before they ever get in the ring.

And how long ago was this? Yeah, I thought so.

I think even the biggest GGG critics (I may be the biggest) admit that none of the top middleweights seem to be in a hurry to get in the ring with Gennady. That said, its hilarious and pathetic at the same time how his fanboys try and not only justify some of pathetic choices of opponents this guy makes at times. Monroe isn't a slick anything. He's a guy that fights on ESPN. He's a guy that only has two scheduled ten round fights on his resume. He's a pathetic choice of a opponent. Just own it and keep push'n.

That was in the third quarter of 2013, things have gone kind of pear-shaped since then.

Main Events wanted Rodriguez as an opponent for Kovalev, HBO told Duva not to bother with him due to his association with Haymon.

Between Prince and Haymon HBO were robbed on that Ward-Rodriguez fight anyway.
