i used to be a big fan, but boxing is truly a mediocre sport to be honest. i will watch the big meaningful fights and meaningful fighters like wlad, froch, rigo and pacquiao. but other than that boxing is truly a fringe niche bottom of the barrel sport. it has been ruined by corrupt people like haymon and it's no longer watchable many times.

after manny and wlad retire i'm going to stop watching this sport.

I think some of you have this all twisted. 4 mill users I think is great. Most people today do not have faith in Boxing. A few more decent shows to get a bigger buzz going and I hope the fan base may increase enough to make this a success. I could care less for Haymon, as he doesn't put a plate of food on my table. I care even less for these greedy promoters and sanctioning bodies that have destroyed boxing.

It would be fair to compare this event with other events if Boxing was some new hip telecast that people would be interested in checking out the hype. That is not the case here, Boxing has been suffering year after year and decade after decade. So hopefully these first few telecasts will stop the bleeding and slowly bring boxing back into the mainstream. I remember the days before PPV and "closed circuit TV" where all the fights were on broadcast TV. Boxing was a household name and did so well for itself that the greedies wanted all the dough to themselves. Not every single fight is going to be a slugfest in Boxing. This isn't UFC where these guys go out there to rip their heads off, yes, I have seen boring UFC fights too.

They need to put Kovalev vs Stevenson on NBC

From a dollars and cents perspective, Stevenson-Kovalev brings in the most money for the participants (outside of putting it on PPV) on NBC; doubt that HBO would ever be willing to put up the $5m that Haymon put up for the first show with Goosen.

Whether Kathy Duva is willing to risk her potential relationship with HBO to deliver for her star fighter (again, assuming that HBO balks at offering to put the fight on PPV) is another story.

Have Main Events (Kathy Duva) sit with GYM (Yvon Michel), join arms, and chase the biggest payday possible; bid Showtime and HBO against each other for potential PPV rights, pursue the biggest TV rights fee if PPV falls through, and go to the venue that offers up the biggest site fee (Bell Centre in Montreal, Barclays Center in Brooklyn, Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, etc).

Get the pie as big as possible and let everyone eat (fight would be mandated by the WBC at a 50/50 split).

You lack any sense of what an investment is. Most big successful business and ventures are in loads of debt. Have you seen what the UFC's debt is?

Now people are worried about Haymon and his investors losing money, this isn't about maybe growing a great sport that been pretty much invisible in the mainstream the last 20 years outside of major fights.

This is a win win for the sport of boxing, even if this fails in 2 years and boxing isn't on network television for another 20 years something here was accomplished. If it wasn't for boxing on network television I'm not sure if I would have become the hardcore fans I've been all these years. I was lucky enough to be changing the channels and there were some live fights, I watched them and loved them. I've spent thousands closer to 10s of thousands over the years on boxing and it was all sparked because I was able to catch it for free on my own almost 20 years ago.

At worst if this fails it will still give the sport some serious exposure and bring in new fans, if this does work, it's going to be a game changer where boxing and boxers will become household names like they used to be in previous generations.

I can understand the promoter and network groupies parroting their favorite bloggers discontent and nitpicking at this but the bloggers need to understand that this is a chance for them to become relevant. Sure it's great having 20k twitter followers and having a cult repeat all the negative spiel that isn't associated with anything HBO/Arum, but they should see the big picture here and embrace the change instead of try to knock it down before it even gets going.

Well said! Boxing will be on network TV for at least 2 years and it's impossible to spin that to a negative.

Do people remember the XFL? They were supposed to have a multi-year plan too. But they spent too much money and couldn't sustain the loses. They got GREAT ratings their first week and then it fell off each week and then they pulled the plug and it never got a year 2. Go read what the heads of NBC sports were saying about the XFL the first few weeks. lol PBC got mediocre numbers at best and are overspending for fighters, production, and promotion.

Haymon is walking into his deal, according to the rumors, with $100m in investor money, most of the costs of the event dealt with on the front end, a significant corporate sponsor to work with (Corona), and the flexibility to make money during the broadcast (which should grow if he proves that he can carry the prime advertising audience for the 2 and a half hours of his telecasts).

Beyond that, Haymon is still bringing in money with his Showtime deal, in addition to the other deals that he's also put together, with no issues in regards to handling talent.

Whether PBC succeeds or fails will be determined over time; heading into it, however, PBC is far more prepared for success than the XFL ever was.
