For example, it was Top Rank, who after getting upset with Greenburg/HBO, negotiated to take Pacquiao to SHO....and sought to get CBS involved in showing programing and ads to promote the ppv fight.

That was a huge change in the sport at the time, and eventually led to a lot of changes at both HBO and CBS.

Part of what's going on in the sport now can be traced back to that.

So I don't buy that Top Rank can't adapt.

But let's see how successful the PBC/time buy approach is before we see how Top Rank will adapt to it (aside from the rumored cable deal with TruTV deal).

As for the Cotto deal...I get that it was about more than just boxing...but this is a boxing forum, so with the opportunities to put on concerts and develop his foundation aside, I'm more interested to see how the boxing side of this deal shakes out going forward.
I never said Top Rank couldn't promote boxing still, I said they were no longer the best at it. I mean they have Bradley I guess, he's the last "star" they made in my opinion, JMM wasn't a Top Rank project and Rios isn't a draw.

Boxing isn't enough anymore, even being a good baketball or football player isn't enough to be a star anymore. You HAVE to branch out and get commercials and have you name out there all the time, not just a week before a fight. I mean seriously, loss or not Manny went from 1 million buys with just about anyone to 300k with Rios.

That's Top Rank not knowing what the **** they are doing, it happens man. Arum is old as dirt and out of touch, Todd is more in touch but he's not Jay-Z or have the contacts in the entertainment industry like Haymon does. Boxing promoters only take you so far, once your career is over they offer nothing and don't care about you at all anymore. Todd can be pissed Cotto left, but you can't blame Cotto for thinking of life outside of boxing, he knows he's near the end.

You keep saying the same thing over and over. Have you reached the limits of your vocabulary or the limits of your IQ?

Oh did Cotto the guy who is constantly bashed for being a closet ****sexual along with his son and insulted by nobodies despite being the guy who fought everyone (and even was a GGG style boogeyman for a while) not bow down to YOUR wants....oh no what a prick.........

Well, you're only looking at it from the US perspective with those ppv buys.

From a more global perspective, they've invested heavily in Macau/Chinese market, and taking Pacquiao over there helped build Zou Shiming...who is a fixture at the Venetian in Macau.

So it's perhaps narrow-minded to only look at how many ppv buys Pacquiao-Rios.
