Showtime was fully aware and ready to absorb any loss from the Mayweather deal. Because again, they clearly OUTBID HBO for Mayweather. They aren't going to do that not being prepared to absorb loss. They weighed everything. Otherwise, they wouldn't have made the deal in the first place. So for instance, Fox Corp purchased ******* for a huge sum of money, but ******* made them nothing in the end. Fox Corp knew before the deal they could lose money and were ready to absorb the loss if it came to that. They aren't going to make a deal that could bankrupt them if things go south.
How is that making sense? Floyd have two remaining fights under Showtime. So you're telling me that even before May signed his six years deal with Showtime with $30 mil/fight guarantee is ok even if they don't make any profits from him as long as they outbid HBO? So, after May's contract is done with Showtime, how they gonna compensate their lost profits? I hope you're not running a business, 'cause your in for bankruptcy in no time.

Yes, Showtime went into the deal knowing the risk involved. They knew perfectly well they could likely lose money. But there is a bigger picture involved. Neither Showtime nor HBO would have went into a bidding war without knowing the risk involved. This is what escapes you. You think they all assumed they were going to make a profit. This is not the case. Any smart business always factors in loss.

And FYI, yes, I do run a business. And loss is always factored in. Even in investments, any smart investor always factors in loss! Any smart gambler, factors in LOSS. Therefore, you don't gamble/invest with what you aren't prepared to lose 100%.

Here we go, first it was Arum with the "We agreed and have signed a contract". Now Freddie crying sparring partners being paid to stay at home. When in the freaking history of boxing has anyone complained about something we all know is a bold face lie. Freddie looking for excuses already. If the little test ducking juicer would have taken the test years ago this fight would have been a memory. You can't believe anything coming from anyone associated with TOP RANK. Seems like they only employ liars and people willing to juice and fight guys they can drain....

There's a bigger picture here that you don't see, but HBO and Showtime both obviously see.
So Showtime as a big network is willing to lose money just to get May from HBO? All 4 of his fights not including Canelo resulted in subpar PPV buys. They made some money and they probably break even on two fights. So getting Floyd I'm pretty sure they are thinking ****load of profits or else they won't go through those hassles just to get him from HBO. Floyd have two remaining fights under his contract, what would be Showtime total profit if Floyd continues to fight the like of Cotto and Khan? How they gonna continue make profit after Floyd is gone?

Answer me this, did Showtime beat HBO as far as How many viewers are concerns? Fight night or regular shows?

Those are the highest PPV in the time of the contract; those numbers are low for Mayweather but for anybody else they are great numbers. I doubt Showtime thought every Mayweather fight would result in 1.5 mil buys when only 8 other fights in history has done better than that.

So I guess HBO comes out the winner then, they let go Mayweather thinking it's not worth to spend such amount of money for a chunck a change. so how will Showtime get those capitals back if Mayweather didn't agree to fight Manny?

I don't tell you how to run your business, but goodluck on your method.

Yes! And HBO was also willing to lose money to KEEP Mayweather, hence why there was a bidding war over him. And one thing you aren't considering is that the battle wasn't necessarily over 'profits.' Like you aren't even thinking about all sorts of other things which are significant to corporations.

Why do you think Geico makes those commercials they do, which don't even show a damn automobile usually? They spend millions on those commercials, and what for? And please don't say 'profits.' There's another keyword that escapes you and ties into one of the reasons why Showtime and HBO were in a bidding war over Mayweather.

HBO didn't just let Mayweather go. But they knew after a certain point, money wasn't the only reason Mayweather went to Showtime. When you get to the point where one offer is $240 million, and the other is $250 million (and these arent the figures, just hypothetical). It's not so much the money at that point. There's other factors. A few heads rolled at HBO, got fired, after they lost Mayweather.
