Is Middleweight Really a Bad Division or

GGG does have a habbit of fighting to the pace of his opponent though. He's extremely guilty of that sometimes.Comment

I'd rank it in the lower half of the 17 odd divisions. That said, I don't think GGG, Quillin, Cotto, N'Dam N'Jikam, Lemieux, Lee, Korobov, Murray and Jacobs are the worst collection of MWs I've ever seen.Comment

I think it's a little bit of both. The MW division isn't all that much, and with GGG being so good, he make them looks even worseComment

Taylor no longer has a title. It's supposed to be N'dam vs Lemieux for the vacant IBF title, but not sure anymore since Lemieux is being sued by his former promoter so potentially it could be N'dam vs someone else now.Comment

It's an average weight class. Outside of 140-154 there aren't a whole lot of stacked divisions. 135 is probably the worst. 130 isn't very good. Middleweight isn't bad with Golovkin, Quillin, Cotto, Canelo (soon), Murray, Jacobs, etc.
Golovkin just needs to be patient. Bernard Hopkins wasn't in exactly a great weight class and the other title holders wouldn't fight him (Don King fighters) but he stayed patient and eventually got big fights in Trinidad and Oscar, unified and became lineal champ. Canelo can be Golovkins Trinidad fight and the unification bought can come eventually as well. He's not a super middleweight and there isn't a whole lot of incentive to move up in weight other than Chavez. We already know he can't fight Ward anytime soon. Can't fight Froch. Kessler retired. That leaves guys like Anthony Dirrell, DeGale, etc. Not very enticing.Comment

If you take out Golovkin's name no one talks about 160 at all.

That's just recent. There was plenty of attention at middleweight when Sergio Martinez was fighting, especially the Chavez and Cotto fights. Martinez just lost last year, Cotto is champ but doesn't appear to want to fight any middleweights which complicates things. There are huge fights to be made at middleweight. Obviously Cotto vs Canelo would be huge. GGG vs either of those guys would be big, and even Peter Quillin can be involved in some pretty good fights (vs Jacobs, his fight with Lee should be good, eventually if he were fight GGG obviously would be big too). It really isn't as bad as people are making it out to be the problem right now is politics and the best guys and champions not fighting each other.Last edited by ИATAS; 02-28-2015, 05:15 PM.Comment

Martinez was good, but he fell hard and fast not Golovkin's fault that Martinez fell off the most of any fighter and that he dropped the belt in a fight that had no business taking place really. That's just recent. I still stand by that statement because if you take Golovkin out of the mix not a single person I cant think of is excited about any of those names at 160. If Andrade moved up I would be mildly excited for that fight but I think I would be the only one.Comment
