It just makes much better business sense to fight on May 5th (a Mexican holiday), where Canelo was a part of the fight that set all of the PPV records. Canelo has sold just as many PPVs as Cotto on non-Mexican Holidays, and when he does fight on those Holidays he sets records. Cotto probably wanted it his way, when he can't really sell fights like that. I'll agree with you on that.
Like I said, the conclusion you're deriving from your premises doesn't follow. It's just a guess dressed up as an argument you present as some sort of psuedo-fact.

Canelo and his promoters made clear when he signed with HBO that he would fight on Mexican Holidays, even though his track record has shown he will fight in months outside of May and September. Cotto v. Canelo isn't May-pac, it needed time to be built if they were going to fight in May. If there were fundamental differences between the two sides would only bolster my position. Making the fight is complex, and saying he "couldn't wait" and was "quick to fight Kirkland" is a weak argument at best.
Also, just fyi GGG has been an "east coast" based fighter since he came to America. He has sold out AC and MSG. His last fight was in California. He is also considered a "budding PPV star."

Cotto is still the WBC middleweight champ right? Why should he bow down to Canelo's demands? Is Canelo really that much bigger of a star than Cotto that he gets to call the site and date for a championship fight that he is challenging for? That's the prize for wanting this fight right? Or are they fighting for the 155 lb super junior middlewelterweight title and Cotto leaves the middleweight strap at home?

You're just too proud to admit your diva fighter twice has rejected a fight with Nelo.

Cotto is up in the psychological war. Cotto took Canelo's Cinco De Mayo spirit and shat on it.
Cotto 1 Canelo 0

May 2nd is taken, so June in NY because the CHAMPION is from NY, Canelo is supposed to come take the title. But he can't fight outside of Vegas or Texas, ever. He never has, and Cotto's done it against Margarito, Manny and Floyd and Canelo decided to fight Kirkland instead, for less money all because he had to fight on his day... that he isn't fighting on anyway.
