Saw him in the Olympics then years later against Chop Chop. I wasn't impressed and thought he really arrogant. A few years later I saw the fight where he was talking to Jim Lampley about the super bowl. I'm sure I've seen other fights in between the Olympics but nothing that I can remember.

Bearing in mind I was only 11 when Mayweather Hatton happened, it was one of the first big fights I actually properly watched it and I remever the crazy weigh in.

My Dad didn't really watch boxing when I was a child, so I didn't see much of the sport. My Dad often watched boxing in the 70's and 80's but I assume he stopped watching it in the early 90's. I dunno if he lost interest, but I never watched boxing with him.

I can remember seeing Tyson-Holyfield 2 in a newspaper when I was on holidays/vacation when I was 10 years old, it was the bite fight on the front of the newspaper. I then kept an eye out for Mike Tyson, I watched his fights that were on Sky TV in the UK.

But for Mayweather specifically, I didn't really know anyone outside of Mike Tyson in boxing from 1997-2008. I only had a very casual interested in it. I first heard of Mayweather when he fought Ricky Hatton in "undefeated." Since 2008 though i've been into boxing big time.

Unlike you I'm not obsessed with Mayweather. I can't remember the last time I had a conversation with you. I assumed you were one of those special kids so I figured it would be cruel to hold any type of meaningful conversation with you.

After seeing Hatton beat Tzsyu in June of 2005 I took to following Hatton's career (this then lead me into being a fan of the sport soon after, but that is another story) Floyd vs Gatti was in this timeframe and I missed that one but I was interested post Gatti because I heard Hatton was being mentioned as a future opponent for Mayweather after it.
This is pretty much how I remember first hearing about him. Back then I probably just saw him as 'that good one that Ricky might be fighting'. It is funny how things turn out!

In any case, the first time I saw him fighting live was November 2005 vs Sharmba Mitchell.

I was 14 years old and have respected him ever since.

Started watching him around when he fought Emanuel Augustus. That was a great fight, then the Corrales fight had me sold. Kid just had some incredible talent and still does for his age. Certainly one of the best talents ever.
