I didn't know who Floyd was until the night he fought Corrales. Going into that fight Floyd was calling Corrales a woman beater and he was going to whip him for all the women. I actually thought Corrales was going to knock him out once he cornered him. I had no idea just how good Floyd was.

Phillip N'Dou was never the same after that fight - his confidence took as big a beating as he did physically.
That was a long time ago.
      That fight was beastly....

Probably 98 99 when they put him on Knockout Kings for EA Sports. Didn't really start watching him until I bet he would beat Chico Corrales.

I had just gotten HBO and he was fighting Goyo Vargas. I had no idea who Goyo was and I had no idea who Mayweather was, but from that fight on, I've been rooting against Mayweather!

when he started to make waves at 130 lbs, IIRC. i was young, and this was a long, long time ago. i didn't have hbo or showtime, and downloading fights from the internet was tough at that stage. i had a terrific collection of fights on two computers, but the house was struckby lightning , and i lost them all.

i think my parents got HBO by the time i was in high school, so probably '01 was when i really got a chance to watch his fights as they were happening. THE fighter of my high school years was jermain taylor. he was the first guy i got to see from the start on TV. no downloads, no nothing, just made sure to stay home on saturday if he was fighting.

I used to hate Floyd back when he fought Oscar and Zab. I actually saw both of those fights as reruns, and back then I couldnt afford ppv nor was I a die hard fan. I didnt see anything great in those fights so I didnt really understand how sharp he really was. I just hated his personality, and assuming those fights were live, I hoped he would lose.

So then years go by, and I hear rumors he is returning to boxing. Now I grew up on Roy and I really admired his slickness and elusiveness. It was amazing. Then I learned about Ali. I admired the way he ran and avoided shots with his hands down.

When I learned of SRL I thought he was going to be a cross between both fighters, due to eras. But all I saw in SRL was him throwing combinations, and using some footwork.

But basically when Floyd was returning to face JMM, I assumed he would be jabbing and running like Ali or similar to SRL.

This dude was the sharpest fighter I have ever seen in my life. He outslicked the hell out of JMM and he was PERFECT. Now remember I was new to the sport. I didnt know that "This fight isnt impressive because JMM is small..blah, blah, blah"

I didnt know I was supposed to discredit the perfection I saw. All I knew was, no matter what JMM is, their aint a fighter in history that could do something THIS perfect to him.

Then I witnessed Floyd go on to face guys bigger, faster, stronger, younger than JMM, and do them the same, if not similar. Thats the reason I never fell into that folklore that people repeat to discredit the guy. He so good, its a shame no one recognized it when he was in his prime. And he was the only guy fighting big young guys. Making them look dumb af!

Man, I'm serious! Dude had all the talent but chose to do a big crap over boxings history with it! Actually had the potential to be the very thing he laughably claims to be but decided to spent the majority of his career like some cheap, mock auctioneer. Like I said, no balls.
